Bicycle owners: anyone driven a 1M?

All right, short and simple:

I have an 18-speed mountain bike, and I was wondering if any of you bicycle owners have had the chance drive a 1M and compare - my bicycle has shock absorbers in the front and under the seat, as well as disc brakes, so it handles pretty nicely...specially on bumpy roads and around corners. Can some of you tell me what to expect when I sit in the 1M for the first time?

All feedback appreciated. Thanks!

I have a bicycle that I've modded. I would assume it would be very similar to the 1M

I find that the sidewalls on the 1M tires make for a stiff ride, my mountain bike has more sidewall so the ride seems much smoother.

Its hard to really gauge because my bike is usually ridden over bumpy off road trails.. the 1 is too wide to fit so I cant get a side by side comparo.

Ride a road bike long distances. The 1M rides much better. Oh, and the seats, the 1M wins there too.

Man, I am soooo glad you asked this question.

I find my bike to be definitely easier to handle on the limit than the 1M due to it's complete lack of turbo lag and superbly linear power delivery. I also get much better mileage than the 1M. Of course, the 1M pulls even with it's ability to carry more people and provide air-conditioning and heating without having to lug a dynamo around.

Also, since the 1M doesn't have a 'Porsche Design' decal on it, I find far fewer loogies on its hood than on the bike seat after being parked on the street. Speaking of parking, it's a lot easier to maneuver the bike into those tight, urban spaces - it even fits in the trunk of a taxi cab when you're too drunk to ride!

All in all, I think you will find the 1M to be far too much of a compromise over your bike. Too heavy, too expensive, too thirsty.

Finally, some tool called Pobst hates it. Apparently, that should mean a lot.

The 1M is a lot heavier than my carbon fiber framed bike, I also find the 1M much more difficult to lock to a bike rack....advantage bike.

I've never had my bike on a dyno but I'll make the assumption the 1M has more power even if I'm all hopped up on Mountain Dew....advantage 1M.

why buy a 1m when you can just mod a mountain bike for 10k less and get the same performance?

My beach cruiser has a bell. My 1M has horn. Both make noise. The bell is more fun, though.

My bike has a banana seat, as well as, front and rear pegs. I can easily accommodate 3 people on the bike, perhaps even a fourth. Couple this with endless mpg and I see absolutely no reason to pursue the 1M any longer. I'm sticking with the bike as my DD and giving up my allocation.

My bike is mid engine. That means its better right? I also put a camber plate on my bike, now all I do is drive in circles.

The Akrapovic wireless kit for clothespin clacking valve control can be of big help, though.
