ED Schedule Hiccup

So my 1M is scheduled for ED tomorrow morning at 9:20AM, but BMW just informed me that the car is not ready but they will make every effort to have the car delivered to the Welt by 4PM tomorrow for viewing only. The paperwork for the plates are late as well. Has anyone else had a similar issue with ED?

Wow, that sucks to hear. I just came back from my ED yesterday. I think my car was produced and ready a whole month in advance.

Anyway, this is your best resource: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=25

My production finished last week, so they were cutting it close. I hope they will prioritize my shipping because of this.

Doubt it. Shipping is handled by an independent company. But you should be getting something nice to drive while they're finishing up with yours, and you can beat the hell out of that car.

Dude, I hope they pamper you silly, perhaps throw in a bonga bonga party or even the key to the chrome M3. Let us know once your ED eventually reaches its epic heights.

Dunno about OP, but I just returned from my ED (135i, unfortunately not a 1M <sigh>) and my car was totaled about a week before my pickup date. They built me a new car, and on the delivery day they did a mock delivery with one of their show cars, then gave me a brand new 535i to drive for the 10 days in Germany. Worked out great, and yes they treated me fantastically well the entire time

While working with BMW for 5 years I've never had a client encounter this. Odd

I wasn't able to do the ED in person, so I had a fellow CCA member who was accomanying another member on his 2012 E92 M ED to sign for me. Yesterday was my ED date and I didn't receive any updates from them on final outcome. They are flying back to the States this morning, so I'll interogate them this afternoon.

Glad to hear your situation worked out well. Did they say how your original car was totaled? I'm guessing it must have been during transport on the truck to BMW Welt, or perhaps when unloading it.

Two weeks ago on the A9 coming South from Leipzig there was a fire on one of those truck car carriers. All the cars were written off, plus the trailer and truck. But they were all Porsche Panamera's and Cayenne's! lol Over 700K euros in damages to the six P-cars. I think they said it was a wiring defect on the truck(LKW).

Damn, now that is a sad sight. The insurance company probably wasn't thrilled about that.

So you personally didn't actually pick up the car? I'm guessing you did this just to get the ~$3400 ED savings then? I didn't realize BMW would let someone else sign for the new owners car. Pretty creative if this is what you did!

I wanted to do ED, but my production date conflicted with my work schedule. It's been referred to as a Proxy Delivery. You have to work it through your CA because the BMW Purchase Order that gets sent to the ED department and Germany needs to be signed by the person picking up the car.

yes.. proxy delivery is available. I talked with someone who has done it twice for others... He said the owner couldn't make the trip and bought him a ticket using airline miles.. and yes... the reason for doing so is the discount. I am sure there are lots of business people with more airline miles than they have time to vacation with...

Happy Ending

For some reason Leipzig had a delivery date for 2-Nov as opposed to 18-Oct. The strange part was the 1-800 number said production completed on Wednesday, 12-Oct, but the customer service rep at the Welt said production actually completed on Friday, 14-Oct which means Leipzig had less than 2 days to deliver the car to the Welt. The car showed up at the Welt at 5 PM yesterday with Euro plates and an odometer reading of 0.0 miles. Needless to say it was the final delivery of the day and was the only car on the delivery floor. The BMW Rep stayed overtime to complete the delivery and the Munich Airport drop off location extended its workday by an hour to 7 PM to accommodate the late drop off. The shipping company said that my car should arrive to the US in 4-6 weeks as opposed to the published 6-8 weeks. I'm praying that he's correct. It was a stressful day for my friends, but BMW came through. Now the agonizing wait.

Sorry for the iphone pic below. I'll post better pictures as I receive them.

I forgot to mention that my friends got more looks while driving the VO 1M compared to his AW E92 M3 with CF roof. It must be the VO, because it's certainly no Porsche.

Not to threadjack, but no. However, when chatting with people at The Welt they said that they had heard that when loading up a car transporter at Leipzig "recently" there was a car that wasn't secured properly that did a nose dive over the top of the cab of the truck. I don't know that was my car, but the inference was certainly there.

Either way, I don't have any ability or right to get more information... and though I'm also seriously curious they won't give me any more data. Until pick-up it wasn't my car; it was a car that was tagged for me but was not owned by me. It had a VIN (which I still have in my paperwork) and was all ready to be sent to me, but never made it for reasons I will never know. Yes, I'll always be curious though
