Strange sensation when turning....

This is my first BMW with a LSD, I don't know if the behavior is normal, but when driving at higher speed (above 40mph let's say) if I need to turn in a curve there is a feel like the car is being pulled back, sometimes it will go away after a few seconds, sometimes the sensation remains until the steering is strait again.

Is there something wrong with my car?

Traction Control perhaps? I don't know that I've felt it, but I don't think I've turned into a curve at 40mph yet!

i feel the lsd kicks in pretty rough - especially noticeable when accelerating out of hairpins (even at very low speed) - somehow reminds me of how the front differential in a pick up truck feels when you have the steering at full clock - just in the back - like something is going rough - blocking itself dont know - maybe it is normal - i have never driven a car with m differential before

I don t think it's the traction control because there is no lights in the dash.
When I'm taking about curve, it's the long gradual curves you will find on highways or back roads.

What do you mean by "pulled back?" LSD does have a different feel but once you get used to it the benefits seem to make the different feel fade away and then it's just natural. I doubt there's anything wrong but I'd keep your ears open for any odd noises.

Is it a 'fizzing' sensation? Those are good!

Do you still have the original oil in the LSD ?

I ask this, because after the break in service of my car last week, there was a printout laying in my car, with some information on some "isues" with the LSD.

The document states that BMW recommends the dealers to replace the standard LSD oil during the 2000km service, and replace it with a special type of oil.

The problems mentioned on the paper are related with cracking noises and unsmooth working of the LSD, mostly at lower speeds. Maybe that's related to the sensation you describe in your post ?

If you want, I can translate the paper next Wednesday, when I'm back at home.
I don't remember which type of oil is stated on the paper...

I believe the "special" oil is the one w/Friction Modifier included.

Correct. And they only suggest adding the friction modifier if the diff is making funky noises.

I am sure I did not have this before the first service, the car is now at 3500miles
