Stock DP vs Others

Hey guys, just thought id ask on here before proceding. I have the ability to get a stock n55 downpipe and ive been told that if i hollow it out, i can get a better output then an AR or any other one, can someone confirm this? If you hollow out the stock dp, is the output actually better, since its a 5" instead of a 4" thar AR is? Please advise guys

You are better off purchasing an aftermarket downpipe, reason being is if there is ever a time you definitely need to go back to stock, you still have your oem downpipe and the dealer won't give you hassle regarding tampering with the catalytic converter.

Agreed upon that but i have my stock oem one thats on the car, sbd slso have another stock which i can purchase from one of my buddies, so my stock one will stay stock but the purchased one to hollow out, but do you guys think that it can be better then an aftermarket one especially since it is 5" compared to 4"

I think an aftermarket one is better. a 5" isnt the best way to go imo too. a 3.5 or 4 is all you will ever need. I'm pretty sure the after market ones are lighter too.

Here is a 5" dp from CP-E that was modeled after the stock downpipe, except catless.

Yes i've seen that already, but thats the CP-E one, i am saying, what if you take the STOCK one, and you hollow it out completely and re-install. Will it perform better then an AR/BERK/VISHNU/iCARBON. I've been told that it puts out more, about 16 more on a dyno...since I am new to performance, I honestly dont even know how to read a dyno but im going from his words, so not 100% sure, so i figured i'd ask the pros...so here I am, asking you guys....the pros lol

I could see hollowing out the stock dp being quite beneficial. I would expect to see similar gains not more tho. I did this on my g35 awhile back and saw nice gains. This being a turbo car the gains would be even greater.

We've done it. Works great and is a hell of a lot cheaper.

Hey, I was just thinking, does this have the added benifit of possibly fooling the folks at the dealership into thinking you're not modded?

Or will the sound give you away?

Good point! Im pretty sure you can get away with it, or at least you'd be able to get away with it more then an AR or any other aftermarket one lol but if someone can shine some light on this, would be great

My put it on my buddy's 135i. He's trapped over 109 before with jb4 and downpipe. Thing is a beast.
