Poll for US owners - Did you pay MSRP, Below or Above for your 1M

There'a a perception among the public that 1M owners have been paying massive markups for their 1Ms.

It seems to be a sort of tragedy of the commons where a few greedy dealers and individuals are dominating the media with their exploitative ways while the silent majority are quietly enjoying their cars.

I'm trying to see if this is just my perception or if there is, indeed, a lot of gouging going on for this rare car.

Please only respond to the poll. You are free to add comments of course but this is not the purpose of the thread.

Thanks for playing!

It's not that simple as just 'below/at/above' in the sense that some of us would have been happy ordering a stripped down base version of the car but had to buy a fully loaded car instead because it was that or nothing (either car ordered loaded by the dealer or letting you know that you have more chance the allocation will go to you if the general manager sees the car is loaded at MSRP (sometimes even with extra options) because all the other people behind you in the waiting list are ready to pay above MSRP).

So in my case I can tell that I paid MSRP, but I had to 'buy more than what I needed/wanted' so I could check both 'MSRP' and 'above but worth it' in the poll.

I gotcha and this is the problem with these narrow focused questions. However, the reason I set it up like this is to get quantifiable data from an active user base to see if there is any validity to the perception out there.

I just had a guy tell me that the 335is was a better car to buy than the 1M because the money he would save on the 3'er vs a marked-up 1'er would be enough to modify it to 1M level.

I told him he was nuts and that most 1M owners are still paying MSRP.

You paid more than you wanted to but you still only paid MSRP. The point of the poll is to gauge gouging and your dealer didnt gouge you.

The gouging word is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. I guess there are enough different definitions of "gouging" to make it not worth an argument. To me, dealers charging above MSRP is not gouging.

Need MOAR clickies.

It looks like over 90% got their 1M's at or below MSRP, totally contradicting popular opinion.

Interesting. But it's looking like we're only 10 maybe 20% of the total 1M population. I wonder if it's a representative sampling...

According to the registry, we have over 250 1M owners on these boards. If we assume ~800 units for the US, that over 25%.

For a population of 800, a sample size of 260 will provide a 95% level of confidence with a 5% margin of error.

A sample size of only ~85 will provide the same level of confidence with a 10% margin of error.

Smile Just sold my E36, 1M waiting at a European dock...

I paid msrp but it was loaded with every option and I had to go with the tire package as well. No changes allowed. No problem for me. I was happy to find one.
