335d on Shutdown
What does the 335d do on shutdown?
When I turn off the engine. I hear fans, a beep/woop-like (countdown) that accelerates. Almost like a bomb or launch sequence. Whooooop, Whooooop, Whoooop, Whoooop, Whooop, Whoop, Whoop, Whoop, Whoop, Whoop, Whoop. On some occasions the fan would run for 15 min after shutdown. even have a burning smell in interior vents. What is is doing?

Our 330d has never done that but it is high mileage, mostly motorway so active regen can take place. It is also given some stick so passive regen probably also occurs.

The fan running is normal so is the burning smell which is from the DPF regen as stated. I would also say the smell coming through the vents is pretty normal if you are parking in a garage where the regen fumes could get sucked into the system easily. I have no idea what the siren sound would be.

it is definitely because of a regeneration cycle occurring at shut down. I'm wondering, though, if there is a way to get it to do a forced regeneration cycle.

Its strange that it would come into the cabin. Since "burn-in", I haven't had the smell come inside. But the fan certainly will trigger after a time period or mileage.
With regards to the "countdown" shutdown sound... does anybody else get this? It happens on EVERY shutdown. Maybe its a later build (Aug 2011)? It sounds like something in an episode of 24. buooooop, buoooop, buoooop, buooop, buooop buooop, buoop, buoop, buoop.... 24 countdown, cut to commercial. either way, I feel like I want to grab the nearest sexy girl, run and dive to safety as an explosion just misses us overhead!
