Window Tinting

I know we have a PPF thread, however, I decided to create a window tinting thread so we can keep track of the types of films and their performance.

I just had my car tinted with SunTek Carbon XP (CXP) and it is amazing! This is SunTek\'s high end film an their response to the ceramic competitors. Incredible heat/uv rejection rates, 0 interference, and looks pure black, as oppose to some films that have a brownish hue depending on lighting conditions. Clarity is also extremely crisp when inside the car. I just sat in my car after sitting in the sun all day and it feels the way it did when i sat in it this morning before i left my garage. Pictures to follow soon!

EDIT: Here are some crappy iPhone pictures, but the tint looks incredible in person. I will take some real pictures when I wash/detail my car again:

I just posted in the other thread that I am having reduced range for my keyless entry (non CA) after having Huper Optik 40 installed. Not a big deal to me, the quality is great and it looks perfect as well. Just FYI.

Here is an example. Turn volume up and u can here me clicking then hear when doors actually unlock. I'm curious what V1k0den had installed but I'm experiencing completely different results.

Ouch.

I was going to go with your installer and Huper but this is really making me reconsider. Did you notice the interference immediately or did this happen a bit later?

I might try SunTek instead.

from reading postings, the type/brand of tinting can effect remote key operations?
I never had that problem from tinting w/ other cars!?

does the degree of tint matter??

Holy crap this sucks. This does not happen with mine. Also, I had metallic film on my previous car and the garage opener range was affected, not at all with my new tint on this car.

Sorry guys...to each his own, ENTIRELY, and I don't want to start a war here but I've always found window tinting kind of tacky.

You're right, it is entirely subjective, however, to throw an objective thought out there: this must not be your daily driver, you must not live in FL, or both lol

hold the transmitter under your mouth... open your mouth and push the button. This uses your body as an antenna, (directional even... with the open mouth... seriously!) and usually adds anywhere from 25 feet to 25 yards addl distance... possibly less with the tint issues... but it does help. .

I know it looks goofy.. but it works.

Really? What about UV and heat protection on the interior?

That's why I got carbon with a 56% heat rejection, over 99% UV rejection, and 0 interference. Tested it today from inside a store and my car was easily 30-40+ feet away.

I used to do this with a different car that had interference issues, all I used to do was touch the fob to my chin, and press the button since the jawbones are used as the "antenna". I wonder what kinda range you get by opening your mouth lol

You can also swallow the fob and punch yourself in the stomach to unlock the car.

Just keep an eye out in the mornings.

I second what you're saying about metalic films. I'm really questioning what people actually got installed. It's always been my impression that ceramics were designed to SOLVE the interference issues that were present with metallic films. My shop showed me how metallic films caused issues, while ceramics (HO actually) was fine. They did it with one of those "test boxes". I would take your car back if your having problems with the "ceramic" guys.

Otherwise, slap in a pair of grills and use the teeth as previously suggested!!

Hey! Well, I don't really drive it everyday. Mostly on the weekends. Garage kept for rest of the days.

I guess I can see where you guys are coming from. Is there any type of film that ONLY protects against UV without the shading?

Yes sir there is, and some really good ones indeed. Go to SunTek's website and look at their CXP films, I think they start as light as 80% so you almost won't even be able to tell it's there, and it still has over 99% uv rejection and a great amount of heat rejection.
