New worlds fastest n55! (New Record)

Just wanted to Share with the community a few runs from this weekend from BMS's test car.

Quote:
Hey guys,

Hit up Famoso with Hotrod today and decided to take a few runs with our n55. Best of the day was 12.055 @ 117.20 and also ran a best MPH of 12.094@117.81.

The car is our 2011 135i, DCT, JB4 (N55 Stage2), BMS DP, BMS Charge Pipe, and our WW Meth Kit (70/30 mix), and for good measure I added a few gallons of 100 octane to my pump 91. Also did the 150# driver mod (removed passenger seat). The runs above were on my daily driver 245/45 Nitto 555Rs. I put the Hoosiers on for a couple runs but didn't go any faster.

Boost was about as high as it would go at 17-18psi tapering to 15psi at 5900rpm where I was shifting. Overall the transmission held up OK but consistently slipped a bit. Launching was a headache as always. If only I could get a measely 1.8 60' out of the thing it would be in the 11s. But for now happy to have the n55 record back in our camp.

Hotrod was running today and I think he also set a record.
I am attaching the slips and logs from the run as well.

Very nice, how much wheel HP and torque are you making with those mods?
Did you lower the psi on the rear tires during the runs?

Awesome numbers... Wish I could do that in my X5... Alas, I can only have Stage 1... Still impressive...

So in this situation would an intercooler help? Everyone keeps talking about how the boost tapers off after about 5500 rpms. What causes that, just the size of the turbo?

Small turbos can't produce enough air t high RPMs, so people refer to them running out of steam.

The higher the RPM the more air the engine consumes to the more air the turbo needs to compress. A larger and more efficient FMIC helps because the turbos don't have to work as hard as a good FMIC will have a lower pressure drop across it then the crappy stocker.

Thats what I figured, I mean the turbo being to small anyway. I know FMICs help hold pressure better, but I didnt know if a FMIC would actually benefit up top if the turbo is too small to hold boost in the higher RPMs.

So from your experience Mike, do you think if the OP put a much better FMIC that he would be able to break in to the 11s? I would assume he would, if not because he was able to hold boost longer, but because the front mount made the turbo a little more efficent overall.

Pretty decent numbers but why stock FMIC?

I have a nice stock X5 FMIC if anyone is interested in retrofitting it... It's slightly bigger than the 335 FMIC... But nothing compared to my New FMIC...
