I've read that both are the same in regards to gains. I went with the AFE as it looks more OEM. Injen was first to the market with their unit so judging by timing and the design the AFE unit had a bit more R&D behind it. IMHO the Injen looks like any ol' run-of-the-mill bolt on tubular CAI. The AFE unit looks like it belongs under the hood. I've gotten comments about how good it looks and well integrated it is under the hood.

The sounds is nice, but I wanted a subtle "performance upgrade" before the spring. Thought I would just help my car breathe first and buy a CAI and a DP. Come spring... chip, exhaust, meth, tune.

search a little more before you think about modding. A "chip" is a tune. you cant have meth without a tune. also intake wont do anything really If u want it to breath a little better I recomend drop in filter and be done and save the money for JB4, ww meth, dp

+1.. Get a Drop in Filter, followed by a FMIC, Tune, Down-pipe and exhaust...

aFe is my personal preference. The Injen is still a good kit, but I like the design of the aFe kit better.

I did a lot of research before buying my intake. I even made a thread with a poll saying Injen VS AFE. Honestly, I wanted to buy the AFE because it looks nicer and because of the stuff ppl are telling you in your thread right now.
But in the end I read a really bad thread about the AFE Intake about how poor the fitment is. So I went with the Injen and I honestly don't regret it.

It really depends on what DME version your running...
The gains were minimal on the old DME version, but with the new DME the gains were non-existent. Looks wise both (AFE and INJEN) are great, and they provide a BOV like sound after install, but performance wise on a stock car, there are no real substantial gains (without a tune to utilize the added air) Now with that said, when you slap on a tune, upgraded intercooler, downpipes and exhaust, maybe then it will make sense to upgrade the Intake (but only after you've done all the other supporting mods). I think the intake should be the last mod you do, not the first. (Hence why I have not jumped on the bandwagon and gotten an intake and only done a drop in). If and when upgraded turbo's are available, then upgrading the intake will be a MUST, but until that time, not really worth the money. IF you want the BOV sound, by all means do it, but don't expect gains as advertised...

Leave the BMS DCI in... Unless your swapping it in for looks, that's the only reason to go that route (Mind you, you have a N54, so it will be a different intake from Injen)

Serious question for those who have the AFE or Injen (This question is not geared towards the 'biased' vendors). I have noticed you all say 'My intake (AFE or Injen) looks and sounds great' but none of you say it increased or decreased my performance... Have any of you gotten a Dyno done of your car with just the intake to see if it really helped or hindered your performance? (No tune, just intake)

Honestly, if i could do it all again, the intake will be one of the last things i do. BMS Stage 2 tune --> AR downpipe --> ER Chargepipe --> BMS WW Meth--> REMUS Race Exhaust (looks sick) --> AFE Stage 2 Intake. |

Very happy with injen!
-Install is a pain but haven't had one issue since. -The increased Bov noise that comes out of it is very loud as well (louder than afe) Performance- Feels like it breathes better up top 4k + and can't really tell much below 4 but definitely no decrease either. -Cone doesn't get very hot and metal piping feels about as hot as the stock intake tubing and box.
