Does anyone recognize that it's a 1M?
I have had my car back home since the 10th. Have had Many people tell me how great the car looks, a few take pictures of the car as I come out of stores etc. but have yet to have anyone say, Wow! it's a 1M
Granted my car is the Only 1M in Utah and I don't drive it everyday around the city. I am still waiting for that 1st person who actually knows what a 1M is. Anyone else out there noticed this as well? Loving this car more each time I drive it.

I have more people ask me if my car is a 1M than a 1 series in general. But that is most likely due to all my carbon pieces, rims, lowered car. So I have to let them down and tell them its a 135i lol.

My car made me feel like a rockstar during my ED....ridiculous attention throughout Europe. Back home, hardly any looks....I actually much prefer the stealth.

I get a few looks, but only at the Tint/Car Audio store the other day did the guy actually know what it was. At least he's the only one to call it by name, guys driving by giving me the 'thumbs-up' might know, but don't say.

I've had several guys ask at stoplights if it is an M1. I just smile and say yes.
One guy got it right, asking if it was a 1M. But whether they get it wrong or right, you can bet they are uniformly thinking, "What is that old guy doing with that car?" |

I have a 135i and its not debadged. I had a couple people come up and examine it closely for a few minutes while I was shopping and when I came back they asked if it was an M-series. I said no, its a 1 series. They looked disappointed and walked off. Keep in mind they admired my car until I told them it was a 1er.

I have had only a few people at work correctly call it a 1M. Most people generally just say nice things and take pictures, but don't know what it is other than its something different. When I took it to my local dealer for the 1200 mile service, the sales and service people all immediately saw me pull into the service bay and flocked to it. It was the 1st 1M they had seen.

First week one guy in an R32 at a stop light said "Nice 1M" and another guy who ran out into the street and said..."is that your 1M?"

Same thing happened to me at my dealer for my 1200 miles service. I have met with a few local e90 posters as well and they of course know what it is, but that's it.

I've decided to call it a M1 when talking to people, I say one '1M' and I see a confused look on peoples face, then I say 'M1' and they understand.

I don't have the heart to correct them... "well actualllyyy the M1 was an iconic race car of the 70's, and in order to not infringe on the legendary nameplate... blah blah" they'd probably tune out anyway.

I'm guessing there are few in Waterloo, Iowa that will have even heard of the 1M. I'm sure it will get looks, but only the serious petrol heads (some of my buddies) will have a clue. That's OK with me. I know what it is. That's all that matters.

Basic check: 4 pipes in the back or not? Anyone that know anything about M-Cars do know that all modern M do have that feature in common. Then its in the details until you drive it...

I don't expect people to recognize it.
Folks barely recognize M cars of any kind let alone a 1M's rare beauty. More often people will comment on how expensive it looks. No kidding. I have a brother-in-law who asked me, "What'd you pay for this?... 80 grand?" I replied, "No way. Only in SoCal do they pay 80 for these!"

I would say yes, they recognize it as a 1 Series M Coupe, 1M or M1... regardless of what they think it's called. they recognize it's uniqueness.
Considering how many times people take pictures of the car parked and while driving, and the enthusiastic that I get all the time... I think it's safe to assume they know it's something special because I rarely if ever see it ever happening with a 128 or 135i. I'm sure my VO color has a lot to do with it too in terms of making it stand out more and/or grab attention. |
