Octane booster w/ N55 Stage 2?
I added a can of NOS Octane booster as per BMS's white-paper on the N55 Stage 2. I can honestly say that it certainly "feels" like it makes a difference. It feels a lot stronger on the highway now. Btw, I'm running Map 2 w/ 93 octane + octane booster.
Has anyone else experienced the same thing? Anyone dyno the difference? The only unfortunate thing is fill-ups are going to cost $14 more now- that octane booster isn't cheap! |

I am running the same (93 + NOS Octane Booster w/ MMT), sure it costs more, but it sure beats the hell out of backfiring all the time w/o it. I have yet to dyno mine in this config.... but I need to.

You're running JB4 Stage2 with DPs, 93 Octane and backfiring if you don't add the Octane booster? I talked with Mike yesterday about this and he said I wouldnt need to add any octane boost when running 93 gas.

Maps: Map 0: Stock bypass. This is the only map you may use the OBDII diagnostic port with. Set to map 0 before dropping off for service, using a BT, etc. Map 1: 12.5psi (suggested for most applications. The higher the octane the more power you'll make.) Map 2: 14psi (suggested for those with a downpipe and 93 octane. May also require octane booster on top of 93 octane for optimal performance. We suggest NOS Race Formula w/ MMT.) Map 3: Progressive meth mapping with flow sensor failsafe. See guide to enable. Meth use isn't supported/suggested without a flow sensor and map 3. Map 4: Stock map w/ CAN active. Soon to be our economy map. Map 5: Not developed for N55 yet Map 6: Custom tuning map. Map 7: 16psi race gas map. 100+ RM2 octane race gas required. Not everyone has backfire issues with 93 octane. It may be a combination of ECU version, gas quality, etc., but from my experience most don't need octane booster, but it never hurts as the added octane definitely helps on many fronts.
If in doubt just add it on every fill up. Mike |

Cool. Thanks for clarifying.
If I read correctly (other posts), I can bounce back between stage1 and stage 2 while on the go? So, if I'm filling up (93) and didn't have a can of octane boost, and running stage2, and got a little backfiring, I could quickly step down to stage1 and still have plenty of fun. Then when I add the Octane boost, flip a couple of settings and bump her right back up to stage2? |
