Real Curb Weights??
What do you guys suppose the real curb weights of our cars are?
I'm guessing the listed curb weights from BMW (as most manufacturers) is their "base" model. I wonder what the weights are when you add the option packages on? I'm guessing a loaded up 335i is probably 80-100 pounds heavier than what is listed as the curb weight. |

Canadian 335i's are listed at 3593 lbs. (MT) and 3605 lbs. (AT) but those figures include a 90% fuel tank level, 150 lbs. for the driver and 15 lbs. for luggage.
Some options can be heavy such as sunroof, but that is standard on the 335i. Heaviest options on the 335i should be the active steering, active cruise, and sport package due to the larger wheels and tires. Or upgrading to the 19" wheel package. With all these options you may end up with over 100 lbs. |

150 lbs for the driver? WTF I bet that this is not the average driver weight. It may be an average RACE DRIVER weight, but def. not a regular person average

I had my car weighed and it came to be 3590lbs. I have the sports package. That was with a 1/4 tank. I agree, the sunroof is one culprit

Yes, Sports Package should add a few more pounds to either one, as would active steering. I doubt active cruise would add much, as it's mostly an electronic system, and uses existing hardware in doing its job. There might be a few extra components, but it doesn't seem like there would be much in the way of extra mechanicals. Premium package probably adds more than active cruise, what with seat heaters. Active steering, definitely adds more, and probably where you don't want it: in unsprung weight, that is weight that is not supported by the springs. That's why it's not always better to use larger wheels, as the suspension has to do more work to control the extra weight.

Here's what I think the additional weights are on top of the "base" curb weight of the car:
Premium Package: (20 pounds) - Power lumbar seats - Leather - Auto Dim Mirror - Power Folding side mirrors - BMW Assist Active Cruise (5 pounds) Active Power Steering (who knows really but guessing 10-15 pounds) Navigation (8-10 pounds) Sport Package (20-25 pounds) Comfort Access (2-3 pounds) Park Distance Control (3-4 pounds) Sirius Satellite Radio (5-8 pounds) Total = 75 to 90 pounds added weight. |

Well, with the NAV, you also add a LCD monitor, all the wiring and harnesses, as well as the I-Drive button, the additional hump in the center console and so forth. As for Sirius, it adds the reciever in the trunk and the receiver cover, as well as all the bolts, screws, harnesses, etc as well as the wiring. |

Probably should have been clearer, but I think I was suffering from a post-lunch coma...
