Adios amigos!
Well, after about 3 years of virtually trouble free, enjoyable motoring, I'm saying good bye to the N54 community. I sold my 2007 335i with 42k miles to a good friend yesterday. I really enjoyed reading about the progress of the platform and tracking all of the great innovations of the developers/ tuners on this website. I still have visitation rights for my old car, but I'll miss it a lot. I finally decided to pull the trigger on the car that I knew I aways wanted.
I'm a die hard BMW fan. I've owned numerous other makes/models from honda/acura, audi, and others, and I've never enjoyed any car as much as my BMW's. I just purchased one of the last e90 M3's with Competition Package and manual transmission in the country. I'm sure I'll miss the torque of my tuned N54, but the siren call of a 4.0L V8 revving to 8300rpm has been calling me for a long time. I'm stoked to finally be answering the call. It will be a long couple weeks as I wait for delivery. So, farewell N54 community. Perhaps I'll run into some of you on the M3 sister site!

Nice, enjoy the M! The suspension on the M is insane, its so much nicer/better than our 335's. Now i'm sure you can mod the 335 to get close but the balance on the M is just awesome.
If anyone here hasn't yet, test drive one, you will see what I mean. I almost was going to get a e90/e92 M but i agree, the tq is terrible compared to the tuned N54, i'm spoiled with the power of the N54. I decided a while ago to have fun with this 335 and then wait and buy a used turbo M that is coming out in the next couple years. That way I'll have the tq, new looks, and awesome handling :-)

Great choice, the M3 is a monster and you will love it. What you lose in TQ and initial punch you definitely make up in sound, a screaming red line and without a doubt suspension. The only thing I didn't like about the M3 was that the steering at low speeds was a little too light for my tastes but that would definitely not stop me from getting one.

I love the E92 M3, I wish I could get one with the N54 engine... If things go well, I could be getting a new M3 when the turbo 6 comes out; it has to be a 6MT coupe though, which I hope they offer. So many "sports" cars now are coming with automatics with paddles and dual clutches, etc. I also hope the new M3 will be lighter.

Hell yeah! Sure, the 335i has torque, but the M3 makes up for it in REVS. Those glorious, ear piercing REVS. It's like aural sex... Get it?!?

That M3 will be a lot more reliable than the N54 will be, overall.
Have heard next to no reliability issues with the M3. Awesome purchase, congrats!

Remember also that when we tune our cars its putting stress on different components in the motor, if everyone supercharged thier m's you would see more issues as well.

enjoy! I have thought about doing this many times over the years, but I am just going to wait for the new turbo M3 to come out in three years or so and then trade in my '07 335 for a used x3 or x5.
If I decide at that time I really want to go high-revving NA I can also get a CPO 991 S, that should be in similar price range to brand new M3 depending on year and mileage

Awesome purchase. Enjoy being able to actually track the car hard and not have issues (if you havn't had issues then you are not pushing the N54 hard enough).

I think I'm going to cry! I wish I had'a v8 M3... I could'a had a V8... Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of an inline 6, but the raw scream of a high rpm v8 is mind blowing. It will blister the paint on the car behind you and make your girl friend orgaz'm in the seat as you rev the engine. I think I need to go drive my car... haha N'Joy the new ride!

thanks everyone! I'm not too worried about the torque drop, 265 ain't exactly pathetic, especially with the gearing advantage provided by the 8400rpm readline.
I'll miss the N54 and this community. My 335i was reasonably modded, and a big driver of the change is that I have three kids now, so I needed a sedan (5 seats). I don't care how comfortable they are, thats what my wife's car is for, but I need them to fit in a pinch. I'll post my comparison once I'm through the break in period on the M3, probably on the M3 site, but maybe I'll post in both.
