Awesome run in with a 2011 GT-R today

On the way home. Pretty heavy traffic, but I'll be honest. The PC brigade won't like this topic.

He was in the far left lane waiting at a set of lights to take a left. It's onto a dual carriageway so the middle lane goes the same way. I saw him ahead so bumped right and got next to him in the queue - waiting for the lights to go green.

As I pulled along side, he looks over - we are brothers. "You have a fast Nissan" he looks at me, admiringly.

"You've got a faster Nissan, I nod back".

I pay him no further heed. Didn't expect a race or so. We both gave eachother the ego boost and I thought that might be that.

That said. The lights got as far as amber and BOOM. He bloody launch controlled it, or else dropped it just perfectly. Off he went.

I think he was stopped accelerating at about a tonne. After that, I reeled him in. I just had to play catch up. God knows what speed I got to to close the gap back down.

The next 5 minutes of my life can only be described as dangerous. But at the same time; the most fun I've had in the zed to date.

Off the line he absolutely destroyed me. But rolling, in the conditions we were in: OK; let's be honest the GT-R is biblical compared to the zed.. But I felt I pushed him along the road for a while.

He pulled off at a slip road about 3 miles later and that was the end of that.

Well, there was a 58 plate Honda right on my tail. Swang out from the slow lane then floored it to get behind me. Thinking it was unmarked police I must admit I was veeery concerned. Engine brakes all the way from 80 or so to 40 after pulling into the slow lane. He drove past me. What I couldn't see from the rear view mirror was his honda wasn't an unmarked accord but a diesel civic . I suppose he just wanted to join in.. Bless

So I had a superb little drive out tonight. And care for the zed in a way I probably didn't before. More or less the weekend I got the car I went on a drive through the Cotswolds with Naomi (and met some of you fine folks of course!); But it's fair to say it didn't really compare to having a blat against the fast datsun's bigger brother in terms of ego boost. And then there's something about being a dick in traffic. Sorry; there just is. *flamesuit*. Very rarely do it, but the only match for that adrenaline is the Nurburgring.

Aaaanyway...

Don't worry you will go into 'pipe and slippers' mode when you buy your old man slush box 335d.

You're probably right

After all: The main thing that makes me want to go quickly is the bloody exhaust note. Won't have to worry about that with the big lady D

I had a play with a GTR in my Boxster. He was miles faster in a straight line but when the North Yorkshire twisties came I was all over him - he clearly lacked the confidence and it was exhilarating chasing him down!

Nice work! Next time there is one, come to a Northern meet!!

Hah. I need to sort the handling out before subjecting myself to that kind of thing.

As many on here can verify from the Cotswolds meet, this thing isn't bad in a straight line at all but is twitchy as a bastard around bends at any kind of speed..

Already sorted the tyres out, which were by FAR the weakest point ... £40 ditch finders on a ~300bhp car. Nice decision dealership! ... but it'd take a good amount of suspension work too before I was really confident to "push on": And there's every chance I'd rather just sell the car than commit to that kind of mod budget (circa 1k for the whole setup, then getting it fitted: And then the fact I could easilly spend another 3k on performance mods after that if I let myself get started )

Put someone behind the wheel of the gtr who knows how to drive and with the greatest of respect a boxster would be nowhere near a gtr's pace through the bends

Mate I rocked my Z all over the roads up here and survived - it just takes time to get used to them I reckon!

Ahh. Didn't know you used to be a zeddite matt!

Maybe it's just the way of the traction control: But I didn't have the guts to turn it off on damp roads and the way it brings the car back is terrifying! You feel pretty out of control!

It was certainly coming in far far earlier than I expected. Say: 70 on a "light bend" and much earlier off camber.

There's definitely much much more to be wrung from her with the money spent. I put it down to the car being tired. She is 8 years old after all, which is much older than I've ever run a car before: Austerity motoring and that..

Almost no road car is anywhere near a GTR's pace through the bends

I didn't say otherwise and I wasn't born yesterday! That said, on one sunny day near Harrogate last summer, I did make one my bitch.

You mean:

Clicky rear axle
Bootlid won't stay open
Driver's seat stopped adjusting
Passenger window motor died
Clutch really high (although not slipping; strangely)
Bose stereo: CD player cuts out
Left door speaker is intermittant
Heated seats not very good
Exhaust hanging at Y pipe, catches on bumps. Will fall off eventually

Yeah. I know what you mean Fixed all of the above though bar the clutch height and cd player (just using iPod now).

I suppose I've restricted my chances of selling the car on this forum now though eh ? heh..

Very fun to drive though: And engine wise it's superb. It's all the bolt on extras that are 'troublesome'. . I'm confident I'd not find a better driving car, that still has climate control, heated seats, all mod cons, less than 50k miles on the clock, the reliability (mechanical at least) - for what I paid (8k).

Plus. I like metallic orange. Heh.

Yep, cheap as chips for the fun you get!! Mine was a 276 bhp model and I always hankered after a later one - whats yours mate? I guess an early one?

I didn't have all the problems you listed, but all those I did have we're in the list... That was a 3-4 yr old car with 36k on it!!

Same here.. It's a 53; very early UK model.

I've not had the benefit of being in one of the 313's. You can get to Revup power (just under 300.. this is the 05-07 ver I think from mem) with a few mods (There goes the first 1k) but I'm trying to stop myself from doing so!

Jesus Christ man get a grip, there are enough negative comments on here at the moment. This is lighthearted banter - so what if it's a BIT childish. Dave and I know well enough when to drive like a bit of a dick and when not to and isn't it driving our cars that we are REALLY all here to do?

I accept that in the sterile and completely fucking pointless/tiresome scenario that Hamilton was in a Boxster and Button was in a GTR that the GTR would be faster. Even in turns!!

Nice little Wednesday night read Dave; nice one.

I'd have done the same fella, mine potentially would sound better than a standard GTR, but that's about it.

Oh, no problem with ineffective heated seats in the 370, burns my friggin' back on its lowest setting!!!

Surely you'll be able to pick up some used parts to tweak your Zed with fairly little outlay from the forum fella - seems to be a lot of stuff constantly changing hands on there. Slippery slope though .

What car were you in? 350Z? 370Z? Z3M? Z4M?
