Formatting a iPad securely?!?

Hi guys,

Basically long story short, I'm getting rid of my old iPad 1 and am wanting to format the device to delete all my data and settings. I've managed to do this on iTunes and on the device again. However, I know that with all 'Microsoft' based computer things, data is easily restorable unless properly formatted using specialist software that deletes and writes 0's to overwrite previous data (preventing data from being recovered in the 'wrong hands').

Is there such a way of doing this on the iPad or are Apple devices prone from specialist recovery like this.

Clearly, I am a Apple novice so appreciate any help

Hi,

There's no need to format the HD on an iPad, as it will only syc with one PC at a time. If you're going to sell it to someone else, they will be prompted with a message stating this and the only way forward for them would be to start off by using factory settings only. A iTunes restore to factory settings will be sufficient.

Hi, Thanks for the reply - much appreciated.

Have done exactly so. Hopefully it should be fine. Was just worried as I know in the wrong hands, PC HD's can be recovered easy enough.

As far as i'm aware the ipad uses solid state storage so i dont think you can recover any data from it.

I think its just hard disk drives that you can restore since the data is never actually deleted, just the index of the datas location is removed.

I've never really looked in to it but I wouldn't be surprised of yu could recover data from an iPad. What you really need to look at though is the probability of it actually happening. For something like an iPad, it wouldn't even cross the mind of 99.9% of buyers. I wouldn't even cross my mind and I've recovered data from PC drives on occasion.
