Pulling the trigger on the "Power kit" revisited
You guys were correct. My query yesterday was somewhat vague. (You Left Coast guys are ruthless!!)
So lets begin again...2011 E93-335i with Sport option (you can see that info below). The Kit in question is the "power kit" offered by the dealers as a 20HP boost. I believe that it is a software upgrade only. I would think that it is a slight pressure boost and timing adjustment. That said, what I was interested in hearing was some feedback from those who had it done already. Specifically, was it worth the investment? (ROI=Return on Investment, Doodle, not a new C/F part) Does the exhaust truly "burble " on the downshift (M/T), as advertized? As far as "getting used to it in five minutes"...Is it the same effect as adding a cold air intake, or is there enough of a mid-range punch to add satisfaction to the highway speed-pass or third gear-out of the corner experience (on a closed course, south of the border on a north/south road only, of course!) I swore that I would not buy another BMW after my '98-528i self-destructed at 130,000 miles, but when we were shopping for a convert, this was the only one that was all around "perfect" at that price point. My second favorite.... (First favorite-see below)

Yes there is a noticeable exhaust burble.
Yes, you can feel the difference in pull. Also any lag is reduced. If you want to stay OEM then the power kit is a great choice! Just stop worry so much and get it installed. If you wanted to spend the same money for an aftermarket tune to get more power you would know that already.

Get it. you will like it. I don't notice much difference when just driving around the surface streets but when I get on the highway i can definitely feel that the car is more powerful and fun to drive

1. - As with anything car related, it's probably not the best investment. I think you ROI would be better if you went with aftermarket products.
2. - The PE exhaust burble is quite dramatic, she's pretty noticable from down the block. 3 - You won't get used to it in 5 minutes, but over time you will crave more and more power. She'll still put a big sh*t eating grin on your face everytime you drive. * Overall thoughts, for 1/2 the money spent on BMW Performance power, you can get aftermarket products wich will more than double that power. PROcede/JB4/Cobb + DCI will net you 80 hp for under $1000. If you are concerned about warranty, invest in a BT Tool so you can scan and clear any codes.

Does anyone have the Power kit with the N54? If so how is it?

I do, one of the biggest difference I noticed is how much turbo lag I use to have.
I am happy with my purchase, won't get as much power as the other tunes, but my warranty stays intact and don't have to worry about installing-unistalling things |

Ummm get 3" downpipes first if you haven't already. You get similar power increase, slightly louder exhaust note. I recommend the VRSF 3" downpipes for $384.99 shipped. You'll also have to get the BMS downpipe fix to get rid of the check engine light, but total cost should still be less than the Power Kit with installation.

Thank you all for your input.
The real "go fast" machines are listed below, so the need for speed is not the issue. Since the E93 is a lease, we want to stay within the warrantee, but just give this car a bit of a boost...pardon the pun!

Anyone add a blow off valve? I mean I've always loved the pressure release sound from turbos, but our cars don't do that?
Can any one recommend anything? |

I have the power kit, it does burble on downshifts, and I think that it is noticeably punchier than without. Like me, you seem nervous about modding out a car and having warranty "fears" even if technically you could erase codes/etc. So this is a no brainer. To me the only question would be do you get the stage 2 to get the bigger fan and more cooling...

It's done!
The PPK was installed yesterday. Here are my impressions from the ride home...short and sweet.
There is a notable change in the exhaust note to more "throaty". This is a GOOD sound, by the way. There is also a "seat of the pants" feeling of additional pull above 2500 rpm. I think part of that comes from the increased audio from the exhaust. As it was rush hour on the good old Long Island X-way, I did some slow rolling in the first four gears...no hesitation or any other ill effects. As I moved further out east into the boondocks and was able to pick up the pace a bit, the mid-range on up to 5-6K rpm is a welcome extra push. BMW should just sell the car this way (part of the Sport package?), especially if they say that it does not affect fuel economy. Just my 2 cents
