TV advice needed!
Hello all,
I've been having a few issues with my LG 47" (Lg 47lx9900) lcd (backlit led). Richer Sounds have agreed to replace it but they dont make my set anymore. So I'm wanting any recommendations from you chaps for a good LCD 47" in the price range of a grand. Ta

I have been looking at a Samsung 46 LED. All the features with 3d and web browser etc. would be in your budget. Model UE46D6530. Will be bought in the sales.

http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/t...UE46D7000LUXXU Hope its ok! - has quite a few more features than my LG but no backlit led. Hope it will calibrate up and have as good a picture as the LG did.

Can someone explain what calibrating the tv means? I have a 46" led backlit Sony and it has loads of different settings which I mainly set to off (noise reduction, etc...) but have often wondered if it's setup could be better?
Any help welcome! |

Depending on the TV it'll have an inbuilt "program" that will show you different screens etc and you alter the settings on the TV to suit your room/light etc. On my LG it its called ISF.

I have always found calibration to quite noticeably improve the PQ
Out of the box they tend to be whacked up to the highest contrast, saturation and sharpness settings. This can cause artefacts to become a lot more pronounced, jagged edges, blown colours etc. As for calibration, as Paul mentioned, changing all the settings, i found the guys over at avforums invaluable to help me get the best calibration settings for my tvs. |

You can find the optimum settings if you google the tv model. Or if you have a THX setup disk or option on any Lucusfilm DVD I.e star wars etc..
Good buy on the 46 D7000!! I've been trying to find reasons to upgrade my Bravia, but it's only 18 months old and hard wired into the wall.. the prospect of strictly come dancing in 3D is appealing!! Go Holly! |

The Samsungs are an awesome bit of kit and imo they are making some of the best TV's at the mo. Always had Sony but i feel they have lost their way a bit since LED's released. The tiny bezel on the Samsung's is fantastic, the 46" takes up hardly anymore space than my old Sony 40" LCD did. The smart tv and built in apps are brilliant and the USB connectivity is great, I have a 1TB WD USB plugged into it for recording and playing back films etc |

I have the UE46D6530. Its a really fantastic set, the Smarthub is so useful - I use it to play video files from my NAS all the time. I used to have a media centre PC, and the new set has allowed my to do away with that altogether.
The bezel is so slim, it makes it look smaller than it really is - I replaced a 46" Sony and the new set looks smaller, even though the actual panel is the same size. I kind of wish I had gone for a larger screen |

I have kinda been tempted into a 46 rather than a 40 Samsung because the bezel is so small that the 40 set looks a bit small.
On the web browser sets how do you type in commands ie. website names etc. |

Definately get the larger one. You enter everything with the remote a bit like texting on traditional keypad mobile. The web browser is functional but not that useful as its slow to enter text. But its not really about the browser, its more about the built-in apps - ie playing video files, music, Google maps etc. There is a Facebook app and various others available for download.

Don't no of it works with that tv mate it's essentially like a wifi phone that controls your tv and smart tv apps as well as going on the Internet etc over wifi. It also streams the tv content to it

Well, to say I'm impressed is an understatement. The functionality of the thing is amazing. It has it's own app store!!
The picture quality is better on some counts than my lg but worse in others. On my LG - I could see vertical panning banding - Can't see it on the Samsung On my Samsung - there is backlight bleed at the top and bottom of the screen (around 2mm) - There was absolutely none of that on the LG The 3D on the Samsung is leagues ahead of the LG in every way. I can also use the 2d to 3d mode to play all my games (no matter what format) in 3D! - Major result for me. I'm really impressed with the 2d to 3d conversion (on the fly) for all formats - even tested out some blu-rays and they play great in 3D too. The added function of being able to pause and record TV (with a hard disk) is a great advantage too. I thought that my LG was the pinnacle of small bezels but the samsung tops it. A 46" tv that takes up less wall space than my 42" plasma. The sound quality is also better than the LG (not that it matters to me as I use my sound system) Yes - it's expensive but I love it so far. Had a quick go at calibrating it but not found my preferred settings yet. To be honest the out of the box settings are better than my attempts so far!

Downloaded the Samsung app for my android phone and it works great - can use my custom keyboard on the phone to search for TV - use it on the internet etc.
