Thoughts on SmartTop for my 2011 e93 335is with JB4
I'm ready for my next mod (I've already installed the JB4 and DCI), so I'm thinking about getting the SmartTop mod. I have a few questions:
Has anyone installed it yet? is it as easy as the pictures/install directions say? My car is a lease, so I want to make sure that when I take it in for service, that the mod will be invisible to the service guys. Hopefully, there haven't been any issues with the SmartTop... Does anyone have the JB4 mod and the SmartTop mod, do they interfere with each other? And finally, does anyone have any recommendations as to where I should buy it from (any specific forum members or is mods4cars.com the best bet)? I got mine from mods4cars, single best mod I have ever done!
You can set the module to off so that they can't see it when they have the car on the computer, but you might be best to take it out completely to be sure. Last time I had mine in (and this was totally my fault), I didn't turn it off so that it was invisible, they tried to program the car and the top controller programming failed and the top stopped working completely. I realized my mistake and went in and set it to off and they could still not program - they tried maybe 4 more times and thought that the module had bricked due to the failed attempt with the smarttop installed. I then physically removed the smarttop and put all the wiring back to stock and the top programmed totally fine, then re-installed the smarttop module. It may have programmed fine if I had turned it off before they started programming, but after the module got screwed up and the smartop was turned off, it was still interfering enough to stop programming until removed. The good news is that it is pretty easy to uninstall, but just keep that in mind when mounting it to make it easier if you have to remove. Just a note - the car had been programmed before with the smartop installed, not sure if the top module specifically had been updated but it had worked to just turn off in the past. Could not live without it now that I have had it and Sven is great if you have any questions or need any support. Rob

I have comfort Access (hopefully this won’t interfere with anything), obviously with this mod I’m going to be using my key fob more often, I wanted to know what the buttons do now. Do I hold down the unlock button to drop the top and vice versa, holding the lock button to put up the top? Also, if I lock the car now, it will automatically fold in the mirrors? What if I swipe my hands on my door handle to lock/unlock the car, do the features still work?
