Out of Warranty - Some advice please

Couple of issues going on with my 2007 335i coupe and being i am out of warranty for the first time, I am looking for some good local spots for service.. Brought to BMW of Manahtann this am and prices seemed ridiculous

1) Oil service is needed and BMW charging $200 for oil service... seemed kind of high

2) Service Engine soon light came on (reason i brought it in)
They want $165 to "diagnose" and see what issue is. Annoying tho that they have no techs on hand to look at car even though i scheduled appointment saying that this was issue and it would take until tomorrow just to see if it was a loose connection or somehting minimal. Of course next loaner car appt is at end of Jan
They are also saying i am 1k miles overdue for spark plugs ($250-300) and an intake silencer ($200)

With my car only having 29k miles is it really time for new spark plugs and doesnt this price seem high? Also what exactly is an intake silencer?

Thanks in advance for help.

Give matt from Cambertoe a call. Oil change and plugs shouldn't be more than 300-400.
He can also diagnose any problem you might have!

these cars dont have an intake silencer and as for the sparks plugs it depends.
If you have a tune on your car it's gonna start to misfire after some 20k miles tuned. I had to change mines when my car had 33,000 miles.
Again, give matt a call he will take care of you!

$200 for a oil change???

Hope that comes with a hand job.

I go to JMK and get a oil change for $70. And that comes with a complimentary inspection.

I do have a Dinan Stage II so maybe i do need but i was under the impression there isnt a set time for spakr plugs. Basically they good or not and if car doesnt misfire / feel off you're OK. They didnt check them jsut saying i needed them at 28,500 miles.

Oil change should be $100 tops with filter. Spark plugs cost you $90 as a DIY ($70 plugs, $20 plug change tool). Maybe $150-200 depending on the mechanics labor rate if you don't trust yourself.

So at most you should be out $300.

Standard spark plug change interval for the N54 is 45000 miles, if your dealer tells you its 100k miles, tell him he's full of shit and check again. If you're tuned, doing an in-between plug change is good maintenance. Although I have almost 30k miles on my plugs running high boost with no misfires or ill effects.
