Sky Internet
Getting totally pissed-off with the Sky Internet in my Mum's house. Using a Sagemcom F@ST2304 router.
It keeps dropping out randomly. Anyone calls in - bang drops out. Read the internet and a LOT of people are experiencing problems. Makes online gaming totally frustrating - and using my local development virtual server to build websites with a flaky network is a pain. I keep having to login to the router and reset. Last time I was home I fitted a digital filter to all lines. I'd like to replace the whole router box but Sky have a username and password that are created from the router box and MAC address. Locking you into their hardware completely - They even charge you for a new router if it is out of warranty (1 year). That is just taking the piss. Apparently you can decipher the username and password using this webste : https://www.cm9.net/skypass/ But I cannot access this site from home. Could someone check if that link is alive ? Hoping Sky's DNS servers are not blocking that site. Sooner I can remove the Sky Router the better. Just JUNK. D,

There's a link on skyuser.co.uk which is legit and I have used it fine to crack my password. Ditched Sky for Plusnet in the end as I lost it it in the end with their poor service. The other thing to do is fault the router. Keep switching off and on whilst talking to their tech support to convince them the router is dead and they will send you another one and with luck it will be a Netgear instead .

If it was my house it would have been binned by now.
Do you have the link to decipher the password ? PM if you wish. I have 2 new router boxes in the house. Itching to get them installed instead of this SKY crap. D. Quote:

I had Sky before and for an entire year it was murder.
Called the broadband helpline(broadband is foreign) and got zero help. The same basic checks each time and never once got a call back once the case had been put through to the technical support. Phone the main Sky call centre in Livingston to tell them I was cancelling my Sky services and that instant someone was sitting right there to help. After that it was fine. Such a shame the broadband helpline is useless and you have to go as far as cancelling before they will help. |

Can you use 2 routers? I thought it was only possible to use one.

I meant I have a choice of 2 new routers to use instead of the SKY crap.
Once I find them .... My Mum has tidied them away somewhere. And can't remember where. Facepalm ..... D.

Tried the site and it is down, apparently something to do with SSL issues and is being moved to another server It is the site I used and it worked fine for me. Just need to remember to put the original router back on if you need to use Sky tech support.

You could always try the old, 'I'm leaving' route. Most things get sorted but you run the risk of them saying 'Bye'

Thanks for the help guys.
I'll wait and see if that site comes back up again. I think simply binning the SKY router and replacing with my own will do what I want. I can always plug the SKY router back in later. At least I know now that for my own house I won't be using SKY. D.

We had sky broadband here when we first moved in - seemed a good deal.
Ended up cancelling the contract afetr 3 months and paying the year off as it was utter shit. Went to virgin instead and its been brilliant - yes it costs more, but i find i make up for it in the savings i make from wanting to kick the shit out of the router on a weekly basis.

What a canny coincidence - I was just about to post a thread asking people what they thought about Sky Broadband. Do sky plum fibre optics/cable or is it once of those phone line plug and play jobs?
