Peoples perception of faster is different for everyone. Also, it appears when your car was built seems to determine much of the slowness as older Progmans ran slower. It is possible the model has something to do with slowness as those with RTTI have different iDrive units (just a guess).

If someone had an e92 their iDrive was already pretty fast and wont notice much of a difference in speed of Progman 25. Those with ’06 e90’s may see a huge bump in speed – all I seem to read from that group are complaints of a slow iDrive prior to progman 25.

Without knowing what progman the owner had previous to progman 25 update - or what model & build date - it will be impossible to tell why progman 25 seems the same or faster.

'07 e92 335 and progman 25.00.04 update seems the same speed as the factory installed progman.

It is faster in some ways but slower in others. To me it looks like they have done (at least) two things;

- Altered the memory management. You can see this because when you navigate through MP3 lists, it loads from disk a bit at a time rather than loading the whole thing into memory (which causes a longer initial delay)

- Altered the task/process priority of navigation. The Nav is definitely slower, but everything else is quicker. I reckon they have lowered the priority, because Nav is very CPU intensive and was probably slowing down everything else previously.

There also a lot of new functionality which is always welcome. In the future we will probably be buying software support contracts with our cars, since the changes will become frequent, and people always want the latest. At the moment you can only get upgrades for a warranty reason or if you pay for it - that will surely change.

Shouldn't you have an option for it being slower?

I have an 06 E90, and PROGMAN v25 does not seem any faster or more responsive. Mine was never painfully slow, though.

v25 is a nice update, even if not any faster.
