Can you specify that you want a Germany built car in your order

Just curious if this is an option. I'm sure no matter where it's built it will be top quality.

Do you mean can you specify you want a German built car as opposed to South Africa?
AFAIK, all ED cars are built in Germany, doesn't make sense to ship from SA to Germany.

If you mean can you get whatever you want and not be bound by the silly BMWNA ordering guide limitations, the answer, sadly, is no. It's just like ordering a car for US delivery.

So the only way to get a German car is to do ED?

No if you are in Germany, you'll likely be getting a german car.

No, AFAIK, we get some German and some SA cars in US.
However, the only way to guarantee it is to do ED.

On a related note, is there any reason to believe the assembly crews in SA are doing a better job than those in Germany?

Check this thread in the regular F30 forum on similar topic.
http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=629651
  • Supposedly SA cars have lower defect rates (post #10)
  • SA build about 1/3 the number of cars as the Munich and Regensburg plants, combined. (post #23)
  • 60% of SA cars go to US, will increase for F30 (post #12)
  • No info on what percentage of US cars are SA, however

My dealer said I can either do ED, or select a car based on production code that is German built,

now that we know we can choose, why in gods name would anyone not do this?

Me: "So the only way to ensure I get a German car is to do European delivery? Or can I specify in the order?"

Dealer: "No, we know from production codes if it’s a German car…so we would get one of those production slots for you. You will just want to remind me when we order."

My ordered F30 is coming from Regensburg, not München but not too far away from it either =)

Edit: oops I looked wrong, mistook the 'F' for an 'E', which makes it coming from München instead lol
