i have a third set in 18´s. with this tyres i was in the alps in november and december. so i have still a back up. on saturday i will go in the deeper snow again. after that i will be able to say if it is practicable or not.

While I admit this is a sweet winter setup, aren't you more prone to wheel damage and less likely to get good traction?

yes a wheel damage could happen more easy than with a 17 inch wheel. if there is too much snow i will swap back to my other set up. the traction is good for light slush snow. also with low covered uptight roads there is a really good traction. for deep fluffy snow a narrow set up will be more clever.
