It's the auto transmission unlock tool, inserted below the cup-holder to manually select neutral in the event of engine failure.
Only applicable to earlier models, as the unlock socket has subsequently been relocated on the transmission underside and is not so easy to access.

You can look up the part numbers at REALOEM.com This is a website with all BMW parts illustrations, and has a lot of model cars going back quite a few years.

For this particular example, you will find this under the main group titled "Equipment Parts", then look up "Car Tool/Lifting Jack" to the right under subgroup.

Triangle part number is 71606770487
First aid kit is 51498270015

You should verify these for yourself as I can only speak to my 2011 F10 535.

The Triangle Kit cannot be ordered domestically, Im not sure about the First aid kit.

Any reason for this change in the newer models? Recently my transmission failed in a remote location and I had to wait for a BMW technician to arrive and to get the car into neutral. Felt very stupid owning such a car.
