Run Flat Repair
Has anyone had any success patching/plugging up a Continental run flat tire in Florida (Tampa Bay Area)? Mine got a hole from a screw on te road and all places telling me that they cannot patch those up. Say that it is written right on their website (Continental's) that DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PATCH IT. Just curios to see if anyone can give me names of some tire shops that would do it cuz from what I've read, it is possible.
Thanks in advance! |

Its not reccomend at all, and any shop will decline to do it because of the liability.
If you need to put a plug in it to limp the car to the tire shop or a day while you wait for a new tire, thats fine. However I would NOT depend on a plug for a perm fix. |

None of the larger (corporate) shops will touch it because of the liability, but you might be able to find a "mom and pop" shop that would do it, if they have the equipment to handle your rims.
The problem has to do with how you treated the tire that went flat. If you drove it any distance at all, utilizing the run-flat feature, the sidewalls have already started to disintegrate and could fail later on. If you treated the tire as a normal tire, and removed it without driving on it, you should be able to fix it without too much risk. |

I worked at a Goodyear in ft. Lauderdale for 4 years. We did runflat patches all day long. Don't guarantee them but they work just fine. Expect to pay 50-60 bucks. Might not be te best idea to be running 150mph but for normal driving they are not a problem

It has not been driven at all on 0psi. I woke up and it was flat in the garage. Just drove it off the driveway for the towtruck to get it to a shop. Tires Plus would not do it either so I bought 2 new rear tires (NON-RFT's). I might have to patch it up myself to have a spare set of rears just in case. Any recommendations on the patch kits?

I would take it to a "mom and pop" shop and tell them that you want to have the tire patched, to use as a spare. They might not even notice what it is, if you don't tell them.

You don't have to take it to a "mom and pop" store.
Goodyear Dealers fix them with no issues. Only Goodyear though, i have repaired mine there multiple times. They have to do a Patch Plug Patch system. Im not sure how it works but thats what I have learned. |

How much did they charge you if you don't mind me asking? I want it to be done right since tires still have about 80% thread on them. I'm gonna either sell them or keep them just in case

Roger that! I already replaced the rears with NT-555's so these will be my backup set. Never plugged a tire myself so we shall see how that goes
