Advice Needed: Neighbor Uses My Driveway
So I live at the end of a street. Our houses are separated by two separate driveways with about 5 feet of grass in between. My neighbor has 3 or 4 cars in his driveway at all times. It's too skinny for them to pass each other while parked, so for the last few months they have been cutting diagonally across the grass and into my driveway to get out.
It has been bothering me ever since I first saw it, but I knew the guy who lived there just had a stroke and that the reason there were so many cars there is because a couple of more family members were living there. Due to this, I decided to be nice and not let it bother me too much, thinking that they would be gone again soon enough. That was 4 months ago... Problem is, they are still there and use my driveway to cut diagonally into their own several times a day. Today was the last straw. I came home and ran in my front door to grab something I had forgotten when I left earlier, leaving my car at the end of the driveway. Now, instead of moving their own car, they decide to cut across the grass again with 2 cars: one of them a large SUV. I came back outside in time to see it clear my car by about 2 inches... I've had enough of this now. How can I stop them from doing this without totally ruining my relationship with my neighbors? |

They know I'm not happy about it. I've mentioned it to them before and I waalk outside and stare at them every time I see them do it. I was hoping that they would get the hint and realize I'm not happy...

Yeah it sucks to be on bad terms with your neighbor, things like this always get complicated. If you don't want to ask them to step. I would build a fence, or have some flowers planted at the edge of your driveway.

1) Put in some shrubs that will eventually create a nice hedge between the two driveways or
2) Move

Is the grass yours? You could start by mentioning that it's hard on the grass and asking them to stop. Try approaching them calmly and politely at first; they may be too stupid to realize they're being rude. If that's not enough, landscape it with some trees, shrubs and/or a few large boulders. The boulders won't require waiting until spring.
If the grass belongs to them you could try just parking in your driveway for a while, but if they can squeeze by on the grass, I think you're out of luck. |

Wow, your neighbours are fucking lazy. We have 2 cars and live in a town house with a driveway only wide enough to fit 1 car going at a time and we deal with it pretty well. We organize the cars based on who's going to be leaving first and if the person whos blocked in has to leave first, one of us will move the car to let them pass. Only takes 1-2min of our time, don't get how that's so inconvenient for your neighbours to do.
In my opinion, ask them nicely to stop doing that completely and explain that there are alternatives (like moving the car) that they can do without cutting across the grass. Hopefully if they are decent human beings they will. Kinda weird how the same type of people who are nice enough to help out their family after one of them had a stroke would be the so inconsiderate to their neighbours. |

Half of the grass strip is yours, correct? Aren't they f*ing up your grass?
If they want to take shortcuts, let them drive across their OWN FRONT LAWN for ingress / egress. Either talk to them earnestly, build a fence, plant some hedges, or hire a guy to lay some big a$$ boulders down. Please do SOMETHING, and stop allowing yourself to be disrespected and humiliated (aka someone's b*z*tch). -Good luck- to you and keep us posted! |

Yes, I left out the skin color in the OP lol. Didn't see the need to mention it.
It's a subdivision. I haven't checked the drawings, but I think I remember the property line being in the middle of the grass that separates our driveways. Some of the family members seem okay. But there's one guy that has no sense of boundaries. He walked into my garage and hung around late at night while I was working underneath my car. Never got the hint that I wanted him to leave. Like I said, it's important for me not to ruin relations with them. I talked to one of them tonight and her response was "you can't see any marks on the grass." Now I'm just looking for the best way to stop them without making a fight out of it and without putting up an ugly fence. |

Just noticed your in Texas. Aren't land mines cheap there?
But on a serious note get a decorative fence and plant flowers around the fence. That way it wouldn't look like a your house is a quarry. |

Get some fucking rocks and paint on them, call them decorative rocks. Tell them they're big in California and your friend has a business so you can get them a few too!

If that doesn't work, you could just come out and say that politely say that you find it very disrespectful to drive across your grass and driveway without permission. If that doesn't work, then the landscaping. They'll be pissed, but at least you'll have a legitimate reason...particularly if you landscape a few other areas at the same time. |
