Need an alternative for nose mask...masking or racer's tape?

I will be doing about 2-3 hours of night driving, and don't want a bumper full of squashed bugs. I know I can wax the bumper and wash it off when I get back, but I won't be able to wash the car until next weekend. I did a search and found that some people suggested masking or racer's tape. Has anyone actually used it, and is it paint safe? What the heck is racer's tape anyway? I don't have enough time to order it from the web, so it has to be something that I can buy locally. Please don't tell me to get a clear bra...this is just for temporary use.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I bought some 3M blue painter's tape for delicate surfaces. Hopefully it won't damage the paint! I'll let you guys know if it works well or not.

In case anybody cares...The blue painter's tape for sensitive surfaces worked great. I kept it on for about 3 hours each time, and it peeled off without any problems or residue. I did get a few wtf looks, but at least I had a love-bug gut free bumper. May be people thought it was a prototype taped up M3.

The love bugs in FL this year are never ending!!!!! I used to commute down i-4 from orlando to tampa about 2-3 times a week and now i finally moved out here to tampa, but we drove back to orlando last weekend for cfbmw.org's poker run and i taped up my front bumper to try and help with the paint chips and it sure helped once again! I just had to clean the windshield once i got in town. But the love bugs arent that bad at night.. I keep a roll in the back seat now
