[Toronto Area] 1M run-in service

I posted this in Canadian regional forum but haven't got much response. Hopefully I'll get more information from here.

So my run-in service is due in a few hundred km. Wondering where in Toronto area you took your 1M to get it done? What's included in this service? Did they use correct fluid?

Please share your experience...

Thx

P.S. all 1M fellows from other region are welcome to share any important information of this 1200mi/2000km service

Glad you asked this question. I was about to schedule mine tomorrow. Going to use all the lube part #'s mentioned in the stickied thead in this forum as a starting point. I hope the transmission flush is part of the 2000 km service in Canada... Apparently it isn't in the US.

I was planning on going with my dealer (BMW Mississauga).

No tranny fluid switch. This is unanimously agreed upon throughout the forum, and it was my personal experience one Edmonton. I just micro managed and brought in the list of fluids that I expected, and that's what I got. Gl.

Hold on a moment....

Transmission fluid is part of the run-in service and should be replaced by MTF5, not the MTF3 as many of the dealers are doing.

I do however agree with the remainder of your statement, I suggest to review the forum and bring a list of fluids that require replacement (engine oil, diff oil and transmission fluid) to the dealership and have them prove to you that they swapped those fluids.

I like to add in writing to the dealer "my car is not to leave the dealer lot" to try and prevent unnecessary joy rides...

I posted this in an older run-in service. This was confirmed to be EXACTLY what you should get done in Canada for your run in service:

(That is MTF LT-5 on the invoice by the way...it just didn't show up)

I went to Parkview, or Park side...the one on Leslie north of Eglinton.

They were NOT going to use the correct fluid, and I asked them which...blah blah blah, they couldn't tell me up front since the system generates it, but the service guy I dealt with was good...He wrote in to "Confirm with fluid with client" when I felt enough time had passed, I went to his desk again and asked about it. He was patient because nobody likes someone telling you your own job...We were both diplomatic about the situation and I ended up with the right fluid going into the diff...

Service was oil change and diff only, I called the day before and I was in and out in about 2 hours...

I actaully went in with the sticky thread open on my iPad and showed the guy the service bulletin which he told me was newer than the newest one they had.

Reality is I don't know completely for sure they didn't stick the wrong fluid in, but when I raised my concern about it, they were very accommodating.

From Arvinz post, seems like the crew in Newmarket also have the up to date info.

Good luck! (I had a nice big smile after the first service since the month of torture was finally over!)

I got the full service at BMW Toronto - correct oil, diff fluid, and they even replaced my air filter. There are 2 service advisors there who really know the deal - was very pleased.

So when should we set up the GTA 1M meet?

So far, 2 fellows had tranny fluid switch as part of run-in service. The rest of fellows only had oil service & diff oil change. Why inconsistent?

So, BMW Toronto, Open Road BMW are recommended. Parkview BMW not so bad.

@Raptor - where did you have yours done? so yours included tranny fluid change?

If tranny fluid change is included @ Open Road and service there is good, I wouldn't mind going there even though it's a little bit far for me.

@blotto649: maybe we can hv a GTA 1M meet early spring? April?
OT: blotto since u hv a 02 MCS, were you member of SOMC?

Any more experience? Keep 'em coming...

Cheers so far guys...

Transmission fluid should not get changed on the 2K service. When I last checked when they first came out the fluid for the trans wasn't available when I did the one on my father's. Only rear diff and oil change.

See ks335's post. Tranny later. Oil and diff at 2k.

He is wrong, there is an internal BMW service bulletin that covers this topic in other threads.

Basically all three fluids are to be changed

I had my 2k service done at Budds BMW in Hamilton.
Emailed the service manager a link to the sticky on proper fluids a week before the appmt.
He confirmed inventory on all fluids & that service would include tranny oil.
Everything was done as expected (this past Tuesday). :-)

Sorry, after reviewing my Paperwork I noticed the trans fluid was also changed. Preposterous post was a mistake.

I apologize. It seemed unanimous at the time that I did my service that the tranny was a later swap. It seems that the consensus has switched now. Does anyone have the link to the internal memo? I can't find it, but I have a good link to a sticky on all the fluids that should be used. Thanks.

When I did my service Canada bulletin stated no tranny oil change. I couldn't get the fluid even if I wanted it. If I'm wrong it's my bad. Didn't want to screw any one up.

Warranty wouldn't cover it either way at the time so it's no big deal. Guess I will just do it when I pull it out in the spring.

That's what I thought, but the new consensus says otherwise. I'd really like to get this new bulletin. Anyone?
