Question RedLine 5W40 vs Motul V300 5W40

What do you think?

I have always used Castrol Edge Sport 0w40(European formula) but now I want to change.
Thank's

V300 is a race oil. Redline is a highly additized Ester/PAO. Redling carries no ACEA approvals for what it's worth.

I know that oils are not recommended by BMW, but this is not important to me
I change oil every 5k miles ................ has anyone tried these oils?

Both will work at the possible expense of your O2 sensors and catalytic converters. This of course assumes your car burns oil. These oils have been used in BMW's for years.

Your engine is direct injected so these oils will increase intake deposits. Dos Italy spec LL04 or LL01? Since you are changing the oil @ a shorter interval you may want to look at a Low/Mid-Saps oil. Redline doesn't sell one but Motul with their 8100 series may be a place to start.

My car does not burn oil and I do not have catalytic converters
In Italy we have spec ll04.

I wanted an ester-based motor oil because I often use the car on track and I was looking for more protection at high temperatures.
Castrol European Formula is a great product, but I do not think enough with very high oil temp

Redline has a big following with the E46/E36 racing crowd. They sell a high HTHS 5w-30. Honestly of the two use cheapest.

Yep. Pretty good HTHS for a 30w. What is the 300v?

I would stick with redline as it is lighter. It's only a N54/55 engine. You should also consider a oil pressure gauge if track a lot.

Didn't they (Redline) have a 5w30 race oil? In any case our boy is in Italy were LL04 is required which means he probably had different cats than what we you have in the US. Thankfully his cats are off.

the car is fine with Castrol 0W40 ..................... I do not think there's much difference with a 5W40 although harder.
Many Guys use the car on the track without a dry sump, with oil level at max and some attention to the temperatures do not think there are problems.

Not a 5w30

5W20, 10w30, 15W40, 15w50

Or there would also be found in Italy the RP XPR 5W30

or this recommended by E92fan and AlpinaB3Lux:
