Nor-Cal: best roads for winding out the 335...

I'm in the Bay area, and looking for the best public roads in the area that have a good combination of
  • Little or no traffic (I know, but I can ask, right?)
  • No cop patrols or monitoring (I hope they don't read this board!)
  • Good curves
  • Some straights long enough to "let it out"...
  • Within a couple of hours of the Bay Area proper
I'm thinking somewhere north or east of SF, maybe out in Lake County?

Except for NO cops, Hwy 35 has a good combo of all your standards. (South of SF)

Pescadero Road (San Mateo County) to Highway 84 has most of what you want. It's more curves than straights and you get to experience weather changes, too, from sea level to the summit on Highway 35. You can get your straights on Highway 1 or Highway 35. Did it on Sunday -- way too much fun :rocks:

9 is by far my favorite road, but he'll face traffic and not too much of a straight.

Every weekend, I try to go west 84, south 35, then down 9. That route has a good combo of everything.

i guess alot of it is when you go... depending on the day and time there might nor not be traffic. i usually hit 9 around 5-8... still has some light and most people are going home.

there are alot more twisties than straights... but as soon as you hit that vista point or whatever its called... there are a buncha straights to go down.

Thnaks guys..those are a help. I knew about 35 and 9, since I used to live in Saratoga, but I figured those might have a little too much traffic. I'll give them a shot, but I was hoping for a more isolated road. I now live in the east bay (Pleasanton), so getting out toward the central valley is easy. Anybody know anything about Patterson Pass road out in Livermore?

I'm also looking for a good road to do some max speed runs...so it would have to be fairly long and straight...seems like some of the county roads out in the central valley might work...but I juts don't know that area too well...also don't want to take out a farmer somewhere along the way...

Ummm... why would we post the best placed to go? Then they would suck when everyone starts to go there. There are roads where the motorcycles hang out that are very remote and lots of fun, I have been riding them for years. 35 has a lot of traffic and locals plus the cops love 35, the residence have kept the pressure up and enforcement is very strict. IMO stay away from 35 at all cost.

We had our week 10 meet this past weekend, wish you could have been with the group. Did you see the photos in the photo forum?

Mines Road is insane. Through Mt. Hami, you have non-stop curves between Livermore and San Jose. Not so much of a high speed road that you are seeking, but you'll have a blast.

Hwy 92 from Hayward to San Mateo is one of the best straights you will find to let it all out, about 10+ miles perfect straight, flat as a pancake, 3 wide lanes and no on-coming traffic. If you go real early on a weekend there is no traffic, no wind, and *usually* no cops. It's like having your own dragstrip!

Just keep an eye out for the airplanes and choppers. A friend of mine was clocked from a plane and tagged by an awaiting patrol car.

I'm sure the job will be easier with a drop top.
