1M is a candidate for 2012 World Performance Car of the Year
Let's see how this one will go; the 3 finalists will be announced in Geneva Auto Show in March, the article says and the winners in April, in New York Auto Show. My guess: 911 wins, 1M among the top 3 finalists together with McLaren or Lamborghini (and 911). New generation 1 series also a finalist for the World Car (general) category. That one I leave others to make guesses Here is the link:

It looks like they pick hyper-cars for the performance category the last few years (458, R8, GT-R) lets see if the 1M can buck the trend and make it to the top!
Anyone know how the cars are judged? Is it just voting or do they test and rank?

If not that, it's certainly on its way to win the Playboy COTY award with 50% of respondents so far voting for it!
Winning that makes for a better cocktail discussion LOL http://www.playboy.com/magazine/cars-of-the-year-2012

The list including RS3 but not Cayman R is weird indeed but maybe it has something to do with the release date of these cars, Cayman R if I remember correctly was launched at the end of 2010 and this list maybe just includes cars that were launched in 2011.
