Advan RS fixer uppers?
I can snag a set of 18" 5x120 RS for $900 right now if I want them. Problem is couple have very small and light curbage, which isn't so much the issue, however both rears have small cracks one of which causes an air leak.
I know to restore these back to perfect shape I am going to have to invest quite a bit of money. My question is whether it's worth it or not? I have seen recently a few sets of 19's in pretty damn good shape go for $1500ish in the classifieds. These being 18's and likely dropping $500+ in repairs and powder coat am having a hard time convincing myself of the deal. Thinking if I offered $800 may be a better deal for myself in the long run. Puts me on the lower end of the spectrum of overall investment and I shouldn't take a loss on the resell value in the future...

Getting the crack fixed is relatively cheap, but it will re-crack again in the same spot in the future. I would not do it. Or, if I did, I would just replace the cracked rim with a new one.

Hardly worth it to replace both the rears in that case then. I have had cracked wheels repaired in the past that lasted just fine on the roads in this area, but I agree structural integrity is definitely compromised.
I think he doesn't view it as a very big deal, simple fix and you get Advans for half price. My issue is I could just wait awhile and keep checking the classifieds for a mint set to pop back up for not much more than what the overall investment will be into these.

I would rather wait for mint condition wheels or buy new ones. When you know they are cracked, don't buy 'em. |

Well I ended up buying them. Used my Jedi tricks and got them much less than his asking price (which was firm haha) to be even more pleasantly surprised. Cracks are tiny, no bends, and will have a buddy weld them for a case of beer. Exterior marks aren't horrible and would be expected from a used wheel.
One is curbed and somehow not noticeable In this color until right up close, will maybe fix or just use these as seasonal wheels. And to cap off the purchase they had Michelin Pilot sports on them in reasonable tread unknown to me. Cliffs: score of the year on used RS, buy 4 for the price of a half lol.
