What bhp/torque can the DCT handle?

Hi guys,

I own a 35i with DCT and was wanting to know what is the maximum bhp/torque the tranny can handle?

I love modding and currently have Evolve automotive remap and super sprint cat back exhaust.

The car has 390bhp at the moment but I'm wanting to add DP's, FMIC, throttle body, bms air filter and meth kit.

I'm also waiting for ESS to release a turbo upgrade kit which i would consider installing.

I'm hoping to get around 500bhp but worried the tranny might fail.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Thanks.

Thanks Constant.s

I knew you would be the one to answer this question!

So i guess the answer would be 700nm torque and around 490-500bhp?

Just want to make sure.

Is there anything that i can do to mod the tranny to handle more power?

Thanks

Well, if you ask me the transmission will hold much more than that. Thats just the safety margin set by the product designer, they are always conservative with the max torque capacity so they can be within safety limits.
The maximum bhp is always related to the rpm the bhp is being produced so therefore the torque that will be produced is a variable.
Now, about upgrading your DCT transmission... I wouldnt go there, it would be REALLY expensive to do so and only a few mechanics can pull a decent job on such a rebuild.
If you dont do hard launches from a stopped position, it will hold just fine and it wont start slipping.

Ps: Im 99% positive that when/if ESS produces a turbo kit for our car, they will reprogram the DCT transmission on our cars, just like they did with the M3 DCT.

Is this an aftermarket upgraded 35I DCT gear box?

I am working on this one as well, the stock DCT not suggested to handle more than 520NM, which just like a 400PS limitation.

Few days ago, boring flip catalogs, found something interesting.

If my assumption is right, can't handle 520NM because of the qualifier gears part will cut into each other when over 520NM. Which I have a method of steaming the coating to harden the qualifier gear parts will solve major problem.
Normally these qualifiers should have hardness max HV600-1500.
Will try to steam in 4 micron MM coating make it HV3000+
