JB+ info please

I've been trying to do some research on the JB+ but it seems like information and reviews about it are kind of hard to come by.

I guess it's because every other tune kind of towers over it. I'm looking for a moderate boost in power after getting rid of my cobb(loved it but can't justify the $$s at the time). So i figure a good compromise would be the JB+ in its default setting, and i love the fact that I wouldn't have to open up my ECU (one of the best features of cobb )

Could anyone give me feedback on the product and how does it exactly work? As a PNP what does it exactly do in terms of manipulating the ECU/engine?

Thanks

I liked mine, it's not like the Cobb tho.

From what I have been told it makes ur car think its at a higher elevation then it is, producing more boost.

I might be completely wrong

Honestly, save up for cobb if you dont want to mess with your ecu.
Eventually youll be able to afford cobb.

You're completely right, the JB+ plugs into the TMAP sensor and tricks the ECU for higher altitude, giving you more boost. You can adjust the pressure from 1.75 to 4.75psi over the stock. Ran the JB+ on my car for nearly two years, and never had a single issue with it. Ran it at 100% but the car wasn't really smooth, the 75% setting was the best. Car was way smoother, had a better feel overall, with a nice bump in power. The JB+ is definitely the best bang for the buck, you can pick a used one for under hundred bucks.

I already have cobb, and I'm selling it because I want to save my money for something else.

hrm....that's an interesting trick... So what happens if you actually go somewhere with really high elevation? How does it affect the A/F ratios? Does the car run richer then?

I'm currently running a JB+ at 100% and it feels good, very strong. I do notice it seems to have some inconsistency sometimes, i suspect i may be getting some timing drop outs from time to time. But like others have mentioned, this is by far the best Hp per $ mod available.

On another note, I'll trade you my JB+ and some cash for your Cobb. PM me if interested.

The JB+ sweet spot is definitely about 75%. Its a great little mod with a 5min install.

Jb+ is perfect for me, just enough power and a very easy install. Also, hasnt thrown any codes even at 100%

There is a chance of throwing codes... but you can always remove it and play dumb at the dealership if you dont have a BT tool

Are their any cons to running this? I'm curious about how it "tricks" the computer into thinking that it's at a higher elevation and how it in turn increases boost...

The stock ECU targets load, not boost correct? So I understand that tricking the ECU would increase boost, but wouldn't it still target the stock load?

How does this exactly work?

In the end the ECU uses the TMAP sensor to know the elevation the car is running at. The JB+ will intercept the signal from the TMAP sensor, change it and forward it to the ECU. the ECU will think it's running at a higher elevation and hence increases the boost to achieve the power it lost due to the fake increase in elevation. Since you did not actually increase your elevation, that power is added to your stock power levels

The cons to running this tune is the fact that you cannot expand beyond it's maximum setting. you get what you pay for. I would buy the JB4 and get all the cool features, and run at map 1 for now.
And believe me, you are going to want more and you will buy aftermarket parts and you will end up selling the JB+ and buying a more sophisticated tune whether it's JB4, COBB or ...

I got a couple of 30FF codes until I did the solenoid bypass.

JB+ is a good starter tune but for those seeking the most and the best you need to jump to a tune in the higher priced market.

It simply tricks the car to raise boost pressure. People use the word trick loosely but all it means is it intercepts the current signal and alters the voltage.

A full tune will control all aspects of engine control Fuel Boost and Ignition while maintaining great drivability.

I can shed some more light if you have an interest we offer for all the popular tunes and ive tried all of them at one point or another.

JB+ was great for about 2 weeks....then I just got hungry for more power. I too once told myself I wasn't going to mod the car much

I have been using my jb+ for a long time and love it, its perfect for a decent power bump on a daily driver. Install or removal seriously takes less than 1 minute once you are familiar with the connectors.

seems like JB+ is the gateway mod...
But it puts out pretty impressive gains, no? I plan on running default but it seems like a lot of people are saying 75% is the sweet spot. I want to avoid the solenoid bypass (because I'm lazy). But we'll see what happens.

How does the JB+ affect a/f ratios? Can I assume my mpg will stay the same w/o lead foot syndrome?

I have mine at 100%, gas mileage still seems good other than wanting to flog the car all the time, the power is just intoxicating. The DME will keep the A/F and timing in check, nothing to worry about.

You may want to invest in a BT cable however, i believe on the 08+ models the DME can store hidden "tuner" codes that will not illuminate a CEL but could be seen if the dealer scans the DME. Maybe someone else can chime in with more info/experience.
