Vanos problems with cobb code p3100

Hey guys I remember seeing a couple posts about these damn vanos codes being thrown and just wanted to know if anyone has figured it out yet.

Nothing seems to be wrong with the car...everything seems to be running fine just the codes are being thrown...p3100 and p2A something.

Either way wanted to know if this problem has been resolved and if it really is a threat to my car.

I had this code along with limps even when the car was stock. changed the Vanos solenoids, and the problem disappeared.

alright guys...so i went ahead and cleaned out my solenoids with brake cleaner...wiped everything down and reinstalled switching the bottom with the top.

conclusion is the car WOTS much better...i thought maybe it was placebo effect but it was not. i was looking for the car to run smoother as everyone said but while looking for the smoothness the car just pulled and pulled.

i will give an update tomorrow after driving somemore in the daytime when the air is a little warmer.

2a87 is outlet-vanos jammed mechanically
I have the same fault. We replaced the solenoid and the cam sensor but the fault is still there.
Friday we will replace the vanos adjustment unit.

Yup, sometimes changing the solenoid doesn't cut it. According to the TSB the next thing to do is change the Vanos adjustment unit.
hopefully that will solve your problem Adem

vanos

clean them first and if you are still getting the codes then you should replace them. If you have more then 45~50k miles on the car this is not uncommon.

I just got the half engine light and the P2A87 and P3100 codes . Is this something serious or not so expensive to fix? I know the P2A87 said vanos plausibility, I dont know what that means. And the P3100 had no description at all. Any help would be appreciated.

Marwan, are VANOS solenoids an expensive fix? Ive just got these codes and not sure what to make of it. Or how much it would cost to repair.

Gonna order mine today. Got half check engine light this weekend at wot. Same two codes. I think someone explained in another thread that the p3100 is an associated code that will really come as a result of the vanos code.

Yes, 3100 just means that there's a problem with the boost target.

I had the same problem when switching to COBB's stage 3 map, and replacing the vanos solenoids solved the issue.

3100 is actually just the limp mode which shuts down the turbos to limit power, therefore the half engine light . Is always present with another code that actually caused it.

I had the vanos code come up then had both solenoids replaced. Code popped up again and now I'm having the cam bearing ledge job done. 5 days left on factory warranty.
