Need help with procede connection ASAP

Just now upgrading my maps from last December. Been busy.

So, I can't get my HP to hook up to the procede for long enough to do the firmware/map update. Even plugged in on high performance with USB suspend disabled. Crashed halfway through firmware update so car is undriveable until I get this resolved. Tried multiple times with no success.

Borrowed roommate's Macbook Pro. Put all Procede files on jump drive. When I plug it in I see nothing but folders on the drive - no files.

I downloaded the following zip file:

N54 7-29 v5 User Tuning Auto Tuning_BETA.zip
For use with EITHER Rev2 or Rev2.5/3 platforms

from

http://procedetuning.com/BMW/n54/dow...downloads.html

And extracted the MAC_OS folder.

Please advise. Need my car for the morning commute.

Don't bother with the MAC_OS folder, that only has hidden files, extract the other folder in the zip - that's where you would find the firmware and maps

Are you using the correct Procede reader version with the version of firmware and map that you are trying to load? I'm not 100% that this will affect updating the firmware and loading a map (may just affect ability to change some adjustables). There have been a lot of updates to versions of the Procede reader. I would make sure you are using the correct one, just to rule that out.

I'm using the version in the link in the OP.

Gotta drive to school at 830 am. Y'all won't be open yet.

I've done plenty of firmware and software upgrades in the past and have even used a mac in the past, just not sure what the problem is this time. I really don't want to call my FB this late to come over so I can get a ride in the AM. Any pointers or ideas would certainly be extremely appreciated.

As mentioned, ignore the MacOS folder. That's just a remnant of us creating these maps on a Mac (running Windows through Parallels).

Are you saying that you can get comms between your laptop and Procede but it doesn't stay connected long enough? Or can you not get comms at all?

Also, make sure that your USB device is assigned to Comm port 1 thru 9. If it's assigned to 10 or over, re-assign it to something lower.

When I use my HP laptop, I can connect via COM4. I normally get around 30% firmware updated before it crashes. I have to recycle ignition and restart laptop to get it to connect again. This is with my laptop plugged in, on high performance and with USB suspend disabled.

When I use my roommate's Macbook Pro, I can't even open the userinterface.exe file. When I do, it opens garbled text but nothing more. It won't run the program.

I greatly greatly appreciate the help. I need to learn to start things like this early but given that I've done it before with no issues I didn't anticipate any this time.

Have you tried resetting your computer, then trying again?

What version of Windows do you have on your laptop?

Wont work on a Mac without VMware Fusion / Parallels etc, running a Windows VM.

Which version of windows ? (Win 7 64?)
I assume you are using a USB to Serial adapter, do you know the brand/model?

Oh yes. Restarted several times. Running Windows 7 64bit.

Can't recall the brand of usb/serial adapter, as I bought it a few years ago, but I know it's a brand that people here recommended. The driver is prolific and I have updated it.

Try this:

Right Click 'My Computer' -> Manage -> Device Manager -> Expand 'Ports' -> Find your adapter / Comm Port -> Double-Click -> Port Settings Tab -> Advanced -> Move both Sliders to the Right (High) -> click ok, and ok again.

If this doesnt work, grab the Driver Details from the driver tab, and copy/paste the Hardware IDs from the Details tab-- under the drop down, should be the 2nd one listed.

Have you been successful using this particular laptop with Win7 64 bit before and using the USB -> Serial?

I have rev3 which doesn't use the serial connection, so this may not apply to you. I cannot get my Win7 64 bit to install the driver properly for the cable. I have to run Windows XP virtual machine, install the driver in the Virtual machine and then connect to the Procede in the virtual machine for everything to work.

If you have Windows 7 Pro/Ultimate or Enterprise, you can download for free XP Mode VM that works great for the Procede - its what I used, with a Prolific USB adapter.

That's exactly what I did.

Wow if it isn't my old my buddy again! This time you need the help!! Lol. Anyways I just bought a new laptop using windows 7 and 64 bit, and also had issues with staying connected. I loaded 4 different versions of drivers for my prolific cable. Well after hours I finally found one driver that worked and Procede stayed connected. Here is the link

http://www.serialgear.com/USB-Serial...-mac-linux.cfm

Look for the 2009 Drivers for windows/vista and 64-bit OS

Good luck

Hummm.....I'm running Macbook Pro with Win 7 Pro on bootcamp and everything loads right up when I update my Procede, no disconnects.

But I have the Rev.2 board, not the Rev.2.5 or 3, which uses the newer maps and maybe even new Procede reader, I'm not sure.......
