Those that want to add front fogs

I was playing with the light switch and activated both. The front switch actually gives you an indicator on the clutser. You can use this switch for the front fogs and have an OEM look/feel/functionality.

The right yellow indicator is the rears and the left green indicator is the fronts.

Yeah this has been discussed regarding the 135i as well. On the 1M all the front bumper openings are functional and I would hate to hinder functionality...I also don't think the 1M calls for fog lights. The rears, on the other hand, are already there for you to use! So enabling the switch is all that's required

Might be good for that guy who wanted to install those LED lights like the MotoGP safety car.

If we could get our hands on the OEM buttons with the symbols painted on, it would be perfect.

128s have front fogs so they might have one of the 2 buttons available at the dealership

I bought the 128i switch for my 135i 3 yrs ago from Andy at LeatherZ when it was something silly like $35. I retrofitted it to the 1///M (only thing changed is the bezel, but you can pull out the old one that doesn't have the chrome accent and replace it with the new one).

Sadly I don't think Andy sells these anymore (www.leatherz.com), and it doesn't seem like you can buy just the buttons on the fascia. They do pop right out though, I was even debating if I leave the front fog one off.

When you say "enabling" the switch, do you mean you have to code the car to show the light for the rear fog on the dashboard or will this just work if you install the headlight switch which has the rear fog (and front if applicable) feature/button?

I'm trying to learn how to code, puchased the cable, loaded the software but it is still kinda scary.

No coding is necessary. By activate he means removing the plastic nubs on the back of the buttons that are there to prevent them from being able to push in. Or buying a switch assembly from a car that already has the buttons activated (128, euro models, etc).

Keep us updated on the coding stuff.

So whats on the left side of the 128 switch? I saw a diagram that showed a dial.

Nothing to the left, both dials (rear and front fog) are to the right, here is the one I bought 3 yrs ago with the main headlight switch/bezel retained from the 1///M (chrome accents)

And, further down, we can also spot the trunk opening button which the 1M lacks too. No (pre-)wiring for that one, I assume ?

IIRC this is for non-US cars, you can adjust the beam on the headlights (when you have rear passengers or heavy load in the trunk that affects the squat of the car)

We lucky Yanks get that button to be fully operational I think non-US cars have that feature deleted.

On my M3 a similar rotary button was present (IIRC more to the right on the left side than the location on your picture), in order to brighten/darken the dashboard light. The first evening after taken delivery I was disappointed that it was missing on my 1M (didn't manage to brighten the low dashboard light). However, the next day I experimented with more buttons and then discovered that the intensity of dashboard lighting can effectively be changed: click the small button on the inside of the stalk (not the button at the end) to get the menu featuring service info, oil, time, etc. There's the menu with, I think, a sun icon where you can adjust to the desired light intensity. In this menu:
Name: HB_ServiceInfo.jpg
Views: 1400
Size: 17.5 KB

But as you guessed, the button on the picture features a headlight icon, so probably the rotary dial serves to manually adjust non-Xenon headlights in a vertical way (Xenons adjust automatically).

all EU Xenon lights have (manditory) build in self leveling function. I suspect this is the same in NA.
