What Dyno should i use?

Ok, so i want to put my baby on the dyno to get a stock baseline before i add any mods and tune. What dyno should i use? I have access to 3 different ones. Mustang, Dynojet, and Dyno Dynamics. Any pros and cons?

If you want to read high go on a DynoJet.

If you want an accurate and consistent number that is closest to what is actually being put out during sustained load on the road, get on a Mustang.

It really doesn't matter as long as you use the same one for before and after tests.

What gear do i have to be in for the dyno session and is there anything special that needs to be done to the car...like pulling a fuse, etc?

It's usually the gear closest to 1:1 ratio. On your speed3 it was 4th gear. I think I've seen people dyno 4th in the 1M's. But I honestly don't know the ratios for our trannys.

5th should be 1:1 but the issue is 5th runs out past 155mph, so unless you have a speed delimiter you will have to run 4th gear to get a full pull in. At least what I've found out on the 135.

Very few dyno operators are going to let their rollers spin that fast.

Even more reason to run 4th!

+1

If you want to read what BMW is advertizing use the DynoJet.

Doesn't really matter, what should matter is going to the same dyno you had your baseline on so you can get a true apples to apples before and after comparo and a 'true' delta (gain due to mods). If hunting for larger numbers (relatively speaking) is more psychologically soothing, go for Dynojet, as opposed to Mustang (often called Heartbreaker dyno)

I have been consistently using Dynojet for several reasons: most shops where my car tends to be throughout the year (different states) run that, but perhaps more importantly, you can download their software (WinPep) for free and play around with your results graphically on your own, superimpose results, examine specific parameters (e.g. AFR over rev range), etc. Don't think you can do that with the other brands
