Continental Dws Issues
I'm currently on 18" DWS with about 3000k on them and today I hydroplaned to almost my death.
Not sure what was going on because it never happened before on the toll road (2-lanes). Have not experienced hydroplaning before with these tires on wet conditions but today was very unusual. I began to loose traction and felt slippage going on the toll road for about a quater mile, and finally my car just went out of control. Luckily I was able to stablize myself after about 30 secs of fish tailing trying to avoid ramming off the bridge-and luckily no 18-wheelers were behind me and I came out with no damage. I heard great reviews on these tires and I never had a problem. This was a light rain not even as hard as other ones I've been in. Nevertheless, I was even loosing traction on the feeder road after I exited. I find it odd that for a toll road to have a long stretch of roadway susceptible to hydoplanning? Any thoughts? Speed was 55-60mph. |

That unfortunate but good you came out okay. Those tires are actually rated really well in wet conditions (9 out of 10). If you were loosing traction and the road was that wet best thing to do is to slow down.
Random ?: Why do you have all season tires in Houston? |

That's crazy! There might have been something on the road. I cruise at 110 mph in the rain in the winter on an open autobahn (in a honda prelude) and completely planted with my crap Fulda German tires over here. Even on the back roads at 100 kph. I did hydroplane on the ring though in an M3 in the rain because that place gets real slick. How old are your tires. Maybe they are just dry rotted and nasty. That hot weather can do it. My tires would dry rot all the time in Arizona and made for some bad wet driving. When it happened were you hard on the gas?

FWIW, the DWS tires on my 128i did very well yesterday in a sudden snow squall with wet roads and an outside temp of 33o F. The only way I could break traction was by flooring the accelerator in 2nd on a tight corner (experimentally in a non-traffic area) and the DTC easily handled that. Tom |

I found out that my rear tires are down the the wearbar. Nice! when I just bought them back in July 2011. Not sure what the heck is going on with the TREADlife because the rears only had about 15k mostly highway non aggressive miles since I got them. Here are the alignment specs that I had done about 2 months after I installed them on. I read alot of postings on here that the toe and/or cambers have something to do with the TREADwear? |
