deal on an 07 vs. 09 335i

So I'm dealing with two different sellers....

1. 07 335i in silver with red interior leather, auto, nav, brushed aluminum, 30k+miles, warranty to 100K (not sure when it ends). The car is CLEAN...looks to be detailed atleast every month. Service for turbo and fuel pump has been done. Regular service done at the dealer. Price is $26,500 and completely stock.

2. 09 335i in space gray and gray leather, auto, nav with 58K miles with 100k warranty until 2015. Car is mostly stock. Still getting information on the service done but its a cpo. Asking $27,500 (negotiable).

Which one is a better deal? Less mileage vs. higher mileage but newer model? I wish one of them was a manual, it would've been an easier decision!

I'd figure out when the warranty on the 07 is going to be up, doubt you'll hit 100 K before then. Since the 09 warranty doesn't end till 2015 or 100k, calculate how long it would take you to put another 42k on the 09 with your driving habits. If you believe you'd drive another 42k before the warranty on the 07 runs out why not take the 07. You'll have a car with less miles that still has a warranty. Having the peace of mind with a warranty is important (to me atleast LOL). Anyway I think the 09 comes with a newer Idrive than 07, that may also be something to take into consideration.

Thanks. Very good input. I found out the 07 warranty ends in Oct 2013. So I would have the peace of mind for a year and a half (and I guess I can always renew it). You're right about the new iDrive and it's an 09..it can't have the same turbo, fuel pump, and water pump issues that the 07-08 had, right? I'm not even sure what the issues are for the 09's...need to research that..

Also, I think I wouldn't do more than 11K a year. I would probably hit 100K after 2015.

I personally would choose the 09 lci.. Being that it's only 1000 in price difference it's a no brainer that the lci would have better resale value.. Are we talking abt e90 or e92???.. If e90 the pre lci ambers are hideous...

Get the 09. You will end up paying 32k after interest.

LCI - Life Cycle Impulse. This means a facelifted model and applies to 09+ e90's and 11+ E92's.

I would go for the 09 since it's CPO but darn, that's a lot of miles.

great responses, i wish i have read this forum before buying my 07 E92 335i.

it definitely would have made me wait a bit longer to do more research, but i was just too darn excited.

the only advice i can give, is this.

As you already did, check the recall and maintenance records on both vehicles.

I went ahead and purchased the extended Maintenance package for $2,495 . I really didn't think this through, DOH! because i am like you, only driving this car about 11 - 12K a year. My next service is scheduled about 22,000 miles from now, which will put me over the Sept. 2013 (my 6 year 100,000 maintenance and CPO warranty). So basically i paid 2500 for two oil changes and front breaks.

My next dilemma is driving more to get the next full service. Which I'll probably have to do because it'll put me in for rear breaks as well.

Check tires, run flats are pretty pricey. twin turbo = new rear tires.

anyway, its been a great car.

Keep searching you may find a better deal for an 08 or 09.

here is a good deal in Elk Grove, Ca

wasn't sure what you like, sedan or coupe?

I actually decided on the 2007 model coupe over the 2009. I wasn't feeling a good vibe with the 2009 owner and it had almost 60K miles. Although it was clean, CPO'd, ultimately, I wasn't comfortable with the high miles for a 3 year old car, plus some of the conversations we had. The 2007 one I'm planning on getting with very low miles (next Monday if everything checks out), looks immaculate by all the pictures she sent me, and all the service/maintenance/recalls has been done by the dealer. I also spoke to her service advisor and answered all my questions. I have yet to see or test drive the car in person but I'm not worried about it. After I saw all the paperwork on it, speaking to her and her SA, I feel confident about the car. I do plan on getting the extended factory warranty before it ends in late 2013, but not the maintenance warranty. I think I know enough about cars to do my own oil/brake changes, even if it is a bmw lol.

The only thing I'm bummed about it is that it won't have the new iDrive. Other than that, I'm sure I'll be happy with the car. Btw.. I am buying the 2007 way below blue book value (I got her to lower more than her asking price of $26,500), plus everything else I previously mentioned pretty much sealed the deal for me.

You can always just update the maps, who cars if the actual Idrive software is not updated. As long as the Navigation is up to date, I am a happy camper.
