How can you tell the difference by looking at them?

BBS stampings on the face is the easiest and surest way.

before, the LM reps used to have no step lip with a rounded lip edge, but now almost all reps have pretty close looking step lips.

Stamps = basically meaning engraving.
Some reps are made well, which means their design is practically flawless to a lot of people. Some reps SUCK.
Anyways, you'll have to get close to it and see the "engraving" BBS on there. That is the only true way.

What stops someone from making the engravement themselves and trying to pass them off as real LM's, or even worse... selling them. Do they make 2pc reps?

Another difference is that reps run for $1000 and BBS runs for $4000.

Reps suck and have plagued the BMW scene. Cheaper materials, manufacturing, and fake split, 1-piece design. You get what you pay for and you gotta pay to play.
