Dinan CAI
Does anyone know if Dinan ever has sales on their CAI or if used ones can be picked up around Ontario?
I'm dying to get one, but at $1299 (website price) that's just retarded. |

I just love the whole keeping IAT's low and the fact that it's a real CAI.
Plus it's absolutely beautiful...in any case I think I'll go STETT seeing as how I can't afford Dinan lol |

sometimes they do go on sale.
contact Brent at Budd's. ask him to call you when they have a sale. I had 2 Dinan mods with Brent and his team do excellent work.

Check the Marketplace/Private Owners/For Sale, Trade, Wanted section in this forum. I've seen a few Dinan intakes being sold there.
I'd love to have one, but until they make one that's not Carbon Fiber, the price isn't likely to go down. That's what makes it so expensive.

I scored one used, and paid $500 for it. Then I needed to buy the hardware from Dinan which came out to $50.
The thing about it, when I saw all the parts I was extremely disappointed: air box cover mounts to OEM air box bottom section), air runner tube, air filter, and couple of small metal brackets. All this for for the $500. Yeah I bought it (Still felt it was still too high for the type of parts I was buying), but it would NEVER pay the $1200 Dinan wants. I'm know a thing or two about manufacturing products, and there's no way they need to charge $1200. On the flip side, this is one of the few actual air intake that does provide good HP numbers. Not trying to get into a air intake war here. There's plenty of other established threads on this topic. I'm surprised that there hasn't been a company that make the same type Dinan style air filter, but made in cheaper materials. I believe all these item could have been done for well under $350-400 easy.

When I get another Dinan CAI I am going all the way with the Carbon Fiber look
+ ER Carbon Fiber Engine Cover Will also be looking to see if ER can do a carbon fiber of the stock CAI snorkle to complete the look. |

I got the Helix intake, I think It's a good compromise. It retains the stock airbox and yet provides a low impedance path for air at higher boost levels

Yeah, I think I'd be into a purchase also if the price were discounted, 20 or 30% even better! Maybe Dinan will see this thread and make us an offer for a "power buy" if we can get the right numbers, any takers?

I love the Dinan intake but yea, the price is absurd.
I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on the Stett....i wonder if there would be a problem with water and having the filter be low in the bumper??

I love mine. The parts are fairly minimal, but there is a ton of R&D that goes into making the product in the first place. That's why the cost is so high. I am really surprised that no one from China has copied it yet though. Would be easy enough to do if you bought one from Dinan.
Best intake in terms of performance IMO. The AFE I had before cost me power and bottom end performance up to about 4k. Going back to a sock box performed better than that thing did! |

I've had my Stett on in the Northeast since last summer, no issues with water at all. The intake works very well.

Idea
There is another TRUE CAI alterantive actually. If someone could make an accessory snorkle extension for the Injen CAI going down to the air duct where the Dinan / K&N cone filter goes then there ya go.
Just need to find someone who can make the snorkle extensions |

I had a STETT, to tight of a fitment for my liking. *Plus I didn't like having to remove my left chassis brace. No instructions just a really poor part list diagram. I sent it back, it did look good though I was bummed out.
I like the Dinan but over priced IMO. If they brought the price down I would diffanetly buy one!

Well now see, this is what we need. Power in numbers!
I've just recently purchased my E93 and find it a bit heavy down low until it starts to pick up a bit and cross into the 3k revs. I figured a good CAI would give me better throttle response and that kool sound. I use to have a 99gsr in a 95 EG body, my CAI was just a simple aluminum pipe heading into the bumper with a big filter. Worked wonderfully. I know there was a company that sold piping separately and mandrill bent corners with silicone connectors. Essentially you could make your own CAI with the right angles. I'm in Ontario so it's harder for me to find N54 fanatics to do a nice group buy. Dinan, please help me out!!! I beg you |

I have the STETT cold air intake and absolutely love it! I first got the AFE dual cone intake/heat shield but honestly it made the car perform worse after 3 or 4 runs. I had to do something about it so I did some research and I love DINAN's idea but couldnt justify the price for some carbon pieces. The STETT intake was very easy to install and a very simple product. Sometimes simple is the way to go! The quality of STETTS product is absolutely amazing. It fits perfect and you can definently feel the difference the second you install it. I was originally scared about the water issue since the filter sits in the bottom of the driver side front bumper. I addressed the issue to a few techs that i know as well as other people that have it on already. Basically you have to SUBMERGE half of the front of the car in atleast 8"-10" of water for you to have problems with water getting sucked up into the motor. That means that your carpets inside the car would be soaked and you would basically have flood damage. Atleast where im located theres not to much heavy rain so I dont see this being ANY issue at all. Unless you plan to take your car swimming
