Visor Labels Removal

Remove those FUGLY warning labels.

I did this mod a while ago, FWIW here's the details.

I know others have been successful with goof-off; but I didn't want to get into that mess.

With the Bimmer the label is fused directly onto the vinyl (or extended leather)
Sooo I gave it a try with a hair dyer a scraper & a few prayers.
Use the dyer on high and it will separate from the visor with the scraper.

It's easiest to remove the visors from the car (2 screws)
& screw them down to anchor them during the operation.

The process...

& the results

There was a little residue after removal.......
Isopropyl & a microfiber cleaned that up.
I followed that with some 303 to condition the vinyl.

It is soooooo nice to be rid of those labels.

Yup - did that to mine too. Much more attractive view looking out my windshield now.

Mine were new... so no such problem.
In the normal position they don't get much direct sun, so I don't think it should be a problem.
Either way it will be better than the fugly label.

Sweet!! I wasn't gonna do it with goof-off (or whatever it as). Heard some people complaining of staining/slight discoloration, but this looks clean and easy!!!

Thanks!

I used Goof-Off on all three of our BMW's visors. So I've tried it on leather, vinyl and cloth. It works VERY quickly (in seconds) and I've seen no ill effects. But I did remove it and clean/condition the visors as soon as the label was gone.

I tried doing it with Goo-gone and I didn't feel like wasting more than 2 minutes on it at the time. Perhaps goof-off is stronger...

I did this like 2 weeks ago. Scraping was a bit of a pain, but I'm so glad it's gone. The picture didn't even make sense - we don't have rear seats!

-I bought both, just to be sure. Goo-Gone sucks, at least for the visor label removal! I think chemically the two are different.

p.s. do NOT use Goof-Off on clear plastic display case tops to remove the sticker residue!

I'm in the leather visor, goof-off camp. I had to work at them a bit with a toothbrush dipped in goof-off to remove the clear adhesive residue that is left once the decal is removed. Once I cleaned that up, I applied leather conditioner to the visor. They look perfect now. Vinyl visors would probably be happy with a nice wipedown with 303 or the like.

I have no idea how you managed to do this..

I used the same hair dryer technique but was left with the residue.. I tried Goo-gone (all they had), then nail polish remover, then bug/tar remover, then stain remover and the residue is still there!! It looks bad. Is it worth trying goo-off, if I can find it or using a laquer thinner (I thought the nail polish remover would be the same)?

GOOF OFF, none of the others. I also tried Goo Gone and it didn't do jack. Must be a significantly different formula.

I used Goof-Off on both my Z4 and 525i to remove the visor decals and it worked BEAUTIFULLY. No probs whatsoever.

Thanks guys for the great & useful info! The labels have been on my 03' Z4 for longer than many of yours, so the hair dryer method did not produce much results, but the Goof Off worked great! Just apply it, wait a few minutes, and wipe off the old labels!

While I had the visors off, I applyed a couple of coats of Forever Black to them. They look bether than new!

^ good stuff
The cabin is so much nicer w/o them

FWIW.. with the H.dryer you really need to blast the heat on HIGH
to get it to separate.
The visor will also wrinkle & stretch a little, but it returns to shape after cooling off.

I used alcohol and a toothbrush on mine with good success. No distortion or discoloration of the vinyl and all the residue came off. Finished up with some protectant.

I spent as much time removing/replacing the visors as I did removing the labels. Well worth the time and effort.

hey guys, i just did this on my roadster. i think i might have used too much goof off because the visors feel a little bit looser now. is this normal? i forgot what they were like before i did it. is there a way to tighten the fabric?
