Busted ODB2 port
My ODB2 port just kind of dangles, the plastic piece that holds it in place appears to have been broken off by the last owner of the car (or the dealer). It looks like the plastic that holds it in place may be a part of the connector itself.
Does anyone have any experience replacing this piece? I checked Tischer for parts but came up empty. The port works fine incidentally. Thanks! EDIT: Added photo Last edited by phazen23; 03-10-2012 at 04:41 PM.. |

I'm in the same boat, its not a big problem.
Leave it there, I think mine happened when I brought it to the dealership one time... You never check that area and when I went to code it, found it broken. No way to prove it was dealership months later. No big deal, it works and is easier IMO to plug in to now |

BMW sells a replacement connector housing. It is P/N 61136931908 and costs $8. Now, the trick would be to replace it. You'd have to de-pin the old connector and re-pin the new one. I'd recommend getting the new part and taking it to a shop that can remove and replace the connector housing, which is most likely an electronics shop and not an automotive mechanic.
Not getting the pins in correct location would not be good. The Bentley manual should have the correct pin-outs in case things go bad. You'd have to pull the kick panel so you have enough cable to easily work on the connector. But considering the OBD II connect just sits behind a panel door, I'd just leave it be, or like previosuly recommended, glue it in place. Be careful if you use gorilla glue, that stuff foams up pretty good. |

mine broke the same way. That connector is not very solid, and with the BT in the forces of the cable moving a bit can result in this.
I removed what was left of the lugs, and made up a simple bracket from a strip of metal shaped like _|-----|_ to clip over the connector and use the original mounting holes. I added double sided tape around the connector. Feels pretty solid now. You need to remove the panel to do this (from memory one screw in the hood release, maybe a second screw somewhere?, pull away the rubber door seal in that area, and it comes out) |
