JL Motoring trunk spoiler installed wrong??

First thing, JL motoring makes a great product and has great customer service....this was NOT installed by them or me....it was installed by a local speed-shop that I am NOT real pleased with right now assumming I am correct about how this spoiler should look. In the below pics is this installed right? I would think the spoiler would follow the lines of the body a LOT better? It looks as if they have the spoiler sitting to low and has casued it to lift up on the edges (it is put on with 3M tape but I know the tape did NOT do this LOL!!). Opinions or pictures of a M-tech spoiler on a E90 would be great!

Thanks everyone, and the forum is great....I havevread countless hours on here and all my mods where possible because of this great place.

Rob

1. it was installed too high.
2. It was installed with 3m double sided tape, which is ok...but not for something like this, and not with such a "piece-y" tape distribution, if you will.

Solutions: have them remove it/remove it yourself, and then reapply with something called "betalink adhesive". It is a paint on adhesive, so you won't see that unsightly gap between the bootlid and the spoiler. However, it is much more permanent than the 3m tape, so if you choose to remove it in the future, it will be more annoying to do so. However, I think it's worth it to have a much better seal, and a better overall fit and finish.

My apologies, you can purchase this product through a bunch of retailers, for example ECSTuning. http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/8269...aign=postreply

you can also get it from GetBMWParts.com/Tischer BMW (for future reference, pretty much "the" place to go if you need OEM parts and don't want to be shafted by your local dealer), but ECS's price on betalink is about a buck cheaper, and ECS is great too, so go with that.

No apologie needed, thank you for the info! I actually ordered my glossy black trim kit (with pillars) and installed it and got it from "Tischer" Great quality and great service. Well I had a bodyshop put the spoiler on with the 3M tape, will get some betalink adhesive for all others and may do it to this one also. The first guy who insalled it didnt prep the surfaces?? Didn't wipe down the surface with alchol or anything.....pretty crappy! You where correct, it was installed to high and he tried to make the trear of the spoiler seat against the trunk and it cause the line on the curve of the spoiler to lift up.

Kinda of a newbie question...I have really never used 3M tape....how long after it is installed can I was my car (I dont use the drive thru ones)? I have had the car sitting out in the sun for 3-4 hrs, only thing I didn't do is tape it down with painters tape because the body shop guy said it was not needed.

Figured I would update the thread, fitment is better but not as flush as I want it, will go with "betalink" in a few days I think.......3M is just a bit cheap looking in my opinion when you look real close. Is the spoiler supposed to hang off the back like that?? It almost has to because if you push it forward it will lift the corners up and would be out of line.

looks like the spoiler itself is the problem. not 3m tape or betalink or any adhesive.

It seems the spoiler itself is short.

+1 on the spoiler being the problem, could it be for an E92 rather?

I was wondering that, because of the way it fits...it seemed off!

Take a blow dryer to it and try to remove yourself, or have the shop do it for you and send it back because of fitment problems. Be sure to attach the pictures of the way it sits on your trunk.

I can remove it with ease...I use Braided fishing line. I have been in contact with them so they have the pics....I just emailed them. I will for sure keep this thread updated!

I got a response and he reffered me to this thread saying it was the right one....but in that thread it is a OEM spoiler not a M-tech I believe?

Here is the response:

Hi

This one the bmw original m tech trunk spoiler. The original trunk spoiler
is a little short on the side too.

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=549594

We are pretty sure it is for e90 trunk spoiler. The e92 m tech trunk
spoiler can not fit on e90 trunk.

theyre both mtech spoilers and both for the e90...difference is, the one on the m3 looks like an oem piece that's full carbon fiber only, and yours is a replica that's carbon fiber laid over fiberglass. the fiberglass part is probably what came from a bad mold and thats why the spoiler sides dont sit flush on the trunk surface, regardless of the little space from the side edges.
