I *might* know someone who *might* be beta testing the GIAC software... I also heard it *might* have monsterous horsepower gains, and be an actual flash... but you didnt here it from me!

I liked the GIAC on my a4, produced really good power gains. However, in this day and age, an ECU reflash is passe. You cant resell a flash when its time to get rid of the car. The piggy-back system is the best invention ever since it works on any car and isnt VIN specific. PLUS, upgrades are downloadable for the piggy-back. For any flash, you have to go back to your installer and pay a fee for the upgrade. Makes no sense.

Me: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE create and introduce an amazing,
reliable, powerful, smooth, and easy to install ECU flash/piggy back
for the BMW 335i Please, we re all dying for your software/hardware
The market only consists of haltech s PROcede, and the old XEDE s.
With just RDsport, AA Tuning, and Vishnu which is brand new to the BMW
scene currently offering products. Everyone knows how great GIAC
products are, so trust me when I say that the E90/92 crowd of 335i
owners is ready and waiting for your product

GIAC replies: We have an inhouse 335i we will developing on and an ECU we are
currently working on. We will definitely be releasing software for the
335s. If you like I can update you when we have something. Thank you
for your inquiry.

Best Regards,

Austin Wyly
www.GIACUSA.com

I reply back with:
Thanks alot for replying Austin, yes please inform me when the software is available. So are we to expect an ECU reflash or downloadable software, or a piggy back ECU system?

Waiting for their reply..........
I know Andrew C and Garrett Lim personally. Andrew, the General Manager, has a 335i himself. When I spoke to him about this several months ago he told me that Garrett is busy working on other projects..but will get to a 335i chip. I pinged them again recently..and got what you got from Austin. They dont know what they are doing yet..so you probably wont get an answer on what type of system they will come out with.

You could always get a second ECU and keep the original for trips to the dealer. Did that in my VW and an APR chip with no problems. I'm not a big fan of GIAC but it'll be interesting to see what they come up with.

As Steve said, I know and have talked to Garret MONTHS ago.
I had all GIAC stuff in my Audi/VWs as well.

I'm betting it will be over a year before GIAC gets a flash available.

I've asked about getting a 2nd ECU as well, as this is another big Audi thing.
I think it's alot harder in a BMW as they really encode the ECM for each particular car. I think (think) this would be and is impossible to do with a Bimmer.

If you kept a stock ecu, would it have to be the entire ecu, or could it be just an internal compoent that can be swapped as needed? Forgive me if this sounds like a dumb question, as I'm not entirely knowledgeable on ecu's and how they are built.

Swapping ecu's on newer bmw's is not easy- the ecu (or dme as bmw calls it)
communicates with other control modules (ews) that have to see the same code (a rolling code - kind of like a garage door opener) with out the code matching the code in the other module the car will not start - so swapping ecu's is not possible.

I know on older ecu's you could swap out the eeprom. but on newer ones there are no replaceable parts. When a ecu goes bad we replace the whole thing>

A GIAC reflash would be my first choice but since it will be months before they get something to market I will have to use one of the piggyback systems.

We've already been through this, they do the reflash ala hypertech and it makes the piggy-back passe!

As someone with a lease, and no intention of keeping the car past lease-end, I'd like a system that is easily removed and put back to stock. I also want something I can remove before dropping the car off for service visits. I just don't want to take the chance on any warranty issues, especially if something breaks.

I've been reading this forum for several weeks now, and it appears to me that the "dream" upgrade would be a Procede-like unit that is 30-second true plug-and-play, like the Turbo Tuner. Now I know the Procede does a lot more with engine management and control than the TT, and makes more power, so I doubt it can ever get to the point where it will be P&P, but that would be nirvana.

So I may need to be satisfied with TT power levels unless someone else comes out with something that does more, but is still P&P.

There is no 335 model, but the concept of loading a program from the reflasher, and then unloading it to resell works well. I believe accessport for the Suburu's also works that way.
