Convertibles outselling the Coupes!

Hey Guys, thought this was interesting... I knew the vert was THE hot car... but didn't know it was so hot that they outsold the coupes! Although personally I am not surprised, since I wanted the coupe too but once I saw the vert I knew that would be the car for me. Here's the link

http://home.att.net/~fdmeloan/3_Series_Sales.pdf

EDIT - Not only is the 335 vert outselling the 335 coupe, the 328 vert is ALSO outselling the 328 coupe.

Sorry my mistake one its corrected now

Well, in MAY at least that's the case, but YTD the coupe is still outselling the vert.

True, but I always thought that was the case because the vert is more expensive, so less people can afford it, and they made more coupes as well.

either way I am seeing way more convertibles than I ever thought I would.... and that's in montreal where it's too cold to put the roof down half the year.

have they both been available the same length of time

but it is prime convertible weather right now in most parts of the country

in a couple of months droptop sales will pretty much stop, while coupes will continue at a similar rate.

people won't pay extra for a droptop when it's rainy or when there's snow on the ground

No they haven't. The vert came out a few months after the coupe did.

I'm not sure about this, since this is a Hardtop vert, unlike others before. That means it is also good in the winter.

I don't see it as a surprise. The Gay Community and the Chubby Blond Female community have both been waiting patiently for the E90 Convertible....

Makes perfect sense.

Kidding... Chubby Blonde's prefer Mustangs we all know this.

It's pent up demand. It will likely settle down in the long run.

That said, a hard top convertible is as appealing as a coupe if you can forgive the slightly less graceful lines and afford the extra $$. Of course, its not a good in the twisties, but the average consumer will never tell. Heck - most convertible M3 owners have probably never heard of cowl shake.

These numbers are skewed because there have been long wait lists for the vert for a long period of time and these have been the first few months of availability.

In all seriousness I think BMW has just been doing their homework on their target and potential markets.

The Twin Turbo Motor, the New coupes, and now the Hard Top, is evidence of someone paying some attention.

They've figured out a way to attract repeat buyers/new buyers and are working it very well.

And according to the BMW E93 sales brochure, with the top up, then torsional rigidity of the chassis is strengthened. It doesn't say it is then the equivalent of the coupe (I doubt it), but it's at least a lot better than any ragtop would be.

Actually, the 328 vert is outselling the 328 coupe. I'm sure that its only because the verts are new on the market and that possibly BMW is making more verts than coupes since there doesnt seem to be a ton of coupes sitting on dealer lots.

A 328 convertible makes a lot of sense... Load that thing up, and cruise around in Top down happiness till fall...

This is it. The first few months get logjammed from all the people who were waiting for the convertible to be released. They've started ordering now, so in a few months, the demand will die down.

I just thought BMW would have made more coupes than verts... since I woulda thought they would sell better with their cheaper price and easier to live with convieniences like a fixed roof.
