I sympathize, but one question.

Does your part time job at subway pay for your car?

I assume your parents are footing the bill, I'd suggest that you lean back and enjoy life a bit. Killing yourself to add a few mods to a car that most people double your age would kill for might not be neccessary.

Damn that's dark, 15% is about the limit for being able to see through at night.

My car is going to be registered in MD, where I have a medical exemption for tint. Prob will get 15% back, 35% sides.

8 grand would go a long way towards paying off the car loan, or saving for college or retirement, or to get a better car for next time

most of those mods won't even make your car perform better

With that attitude maybe you should squirrel away $6000 you've saved towards future ticket fines.

not to mention all that bodywork and lowering is going to make your car look all riced out.

Drive it stock for a while. Then decide if you need thinner tires, heavier wheels, lower and stiffer suspension, and even less ground clearance, and a louder exhaust, or thousands of dollars of crap looking bodywork add-ons that will kill the resale value. (you don't)

put $7k in an IRA. you will thank me later.

Agreed. Dumping that $4k you have in savings all into mods isnt the smartest thing. But then again, at 17, not many people think about savings. It's all about enjoying all the money you have. It's not until you get right around the end of college that you realize the value of money.

Don't estimate how much it's going to cost you to mod the car. Rather, estimate how many hours of work you have to put in at Safeway to save $7k. Working part time is going to take you a hell of a long time to save that much. Then you realize the value of money.

Do you really think he knows what an IRA is? When I was 17 I was still playing Duck Hunt on Nintendo.

Hahah forreals! Some people are in their 30's and barely figured out what an IRA is. It's not something people learn in school or in their everyday lives unless they work in the Financial industry.

*sigh* the lack of the american education system. Instead making GYM a mandatory class, Intro to Finance should be required.
