E93 - Significant Roof Scratching

So I got my car home today (2007 E93) and noticed that there is an aweful lot of scratching on the top on the passenger side only. I suspect it's from the roof retraction. My assumption is that they would have protected against this in the design so it wouldn't be normal, and my concern is that it means there's a problem with the roof.

They're not noticable (unless you happen to be getting into the passenger side, or doing never ending laps around your new car). I have a feeling that if I touch them up they're just going to come back, so I guess I'm looking for long terms options/solutions.

Is this normal, or is my roof slightly off? Either way what is the best way to fix it?

Here's two pictures of the scratches (it happens on both front and rear panels on the passenger side.

let go of the retract button part way through the retraction cycle and check for clearance/rubbing issues. Hopefully everything is fine mechanically and this got scratched up some other way.

The top can be adjusted at the dealership. I had one dealership tell me it was not possible but a different dealership did it for me using some sort of jig. Mine was adjusted under warranty, so I am not sure about the price, but hopefully this isnt a problem with your top.

Good luck.

OK, thank you very much. I'm going to purchase the extended warranty so hopefully that kind of alignment will be covered. For the time being it's not in my top 10 list of things to do (since most of the damage appears to be done).

I think that regardless I need to take it to an actual BMW dealer and have it looked at top to bottom. The mileage is just so low for a 2007 (23k) that I expected something to be wrong with it that was a bit more egregious than this.

I used to have a small scratching problem on the front driver's side. Took it into the dealer, they detailed the spot and fixed the issue. Not sure where it was happening, but it must've been when it was fully closed and going over a bump

My assumption is that you have been hitting bumps causing your roof to move up and down and it is touching something unpadded. I would definitely take it in to the dealer since the problem will more than likely not just go away.

That looks like the front piece of the roof from the pics, it stacks in the center and the back window stacks over it - I would stack them and take a look while they are stacked to see if some part of the back window section is hanging down or touching that section.

My e93 kind of looks like your second picture. I guess I should get this checked out. Definitely some touching, rubbing, etc

Definitely not normal, have the dealership address the issue. I have an 07 as well and the roof is in pristine condition. It gets quite a bit of usage year around in these parts as well.

Can you not retract the roof in steps (almost slow motion like) and check the flow of it to confirm your suspicions?
