Exclamation engine stalls when started

do you remember in old fashion cars (not the new 335's), but older cars when you used to turn the key and u would hear that little noise before the actual engine would turn on? the noise when the key is turned?

well this is the second time this has happen to me and i thought i should post to see if anyone has any opinions or if this has happened to anyone else.

I just recently bought a BMW 335i Coupe, about a week old. Last night when i went to turn it on, it stalled. By that i mean when i pushed the start button, the little noise before the engine turns on stayed on for about 3 seconds. I was very worried and this evening, when I went to turn on my car again... IT DID THE SAME THING! I thought i should turn to this forum before i contact BMW or take my car in...

please let me know asap if you have any opinions or you can help me out.

thanks,
pejman

My car stalls ~ 5% of the time after hitting the start button -- about the same percentage of time that my previous car might stall when not turning key long enough. I thought that since the start button should behave digitally (either it is pushed or not pushed) that the car should very rarely stall.

thats the worse thing u could do! ull just kill it faster!
if it starts cranking and doesnt start right away hit the button again and it will stop cranking. As soon as u hit the button again it will fire right up!
Yes your fuel pump is on its verge of failing

+1, as much as I hate to say this, it could very well be your fuel pump going out.

The car is supposed to crank automatically until it catches. Hence the 4-5 second long crank videos you see lol.

Make sure you've got your foot on the brake or clutch all the way before pushing the button.

Other than that, there is no where near enough information giving to actually provide some useful diagnosis. Instead lets just go ahead with Wild Ass speculation!

I have more videos, but I think those give you a good idea.

My car died shortly after it started doing that.

a failing high pressure pump will begin to have problems creating enough pressure to drive the direct injectors. long cranking before start is a sign of this. this has happened to quite a few people, it looks like at the very least a large batch of bad pumps from Siemens if not a flawed design.

if it completely fails, the car will be dead. it also may fail completely at any time during driving if its beginning to fail. not sure how bad the backorder is nowadays, but some people have had to wait 2+ months for a replacement pump.
